Woodland on The Warren

The largest tree-planting project to take place at Chatsworth for over 90 years is now underway. 40 hectares of new native woodland are to be planted on an area known as The Warren.  Woodland has always been an integral part of the Chatsworth Estate and the trees we see today reflect a long-term vision of the development of the whole Estate over many generations of the Duke's family.

Tree and shrubs will be introduced during the next ten to fifteen years, with 60% of the site being planted with trees and shrubs during the first year, and deer fencing established around the perimeter.  Planting will create a diverse woodland habitat suitable for many species of woodland birds as well as continuing the tradition of landscape and amenity improvements on the Estate. The proposals will also include individual specimen trees and small scale features such as open glades and areas of shrubs to encourage woodland birds to forage and nest.
