Please note
Christmas opening does not include the five State rooms on the top floor of the house, and the decorations are likely to obscure some works of art. There is also much less light in the rooms.

Our preferential group rates are not valid during weekends in November and December.

Prices & tours

We are delighted to be able to offer the following admission prices for groups of 15 or more:

House and garden (Unguided):

It is easy to enhance your visit with one of our special tours; guides bring the house and garden to life with a private tour and we have a wide range of options from which groups can choose.

Tours of the house are available in English, French, German, Italian and Spanish.

Introductory Tours - (+£4.00 per person extra to our group rate


Introductory House Tour - lasts for approx one hour
This guided tour focuses on some of the vivid characters who built and lived at Chatsworth, and some highlights from the collection, to give a fascinating overview of Chatsworth's riches. (This tour is available during house opening times only.)

Introductory Garden Tour - lasts for approx one hour
The 105 acre garden that surrounds Chatsworth has many important historical and horticultural features from the last five centuries, of interest to anyone with a love of gardening, landscape and history. This introductory tour takes in the principal historical features of the garden, and will tell you about other areas you can enjoy in your own time.

Secrets & Symbols Tour of the House - lasts for approx 1 ½ hours
Hidden meanings lie within Chatsworth's 300 year old painted ceilings and walls. Let our guide decode the symbols and discover the stories left by people centuries ago.

Portraits & their Stories Tour of the House - lasts for approx 1 ½ hours
Every portrait tells a fascinating story. Your guide will uncover the clues which help us glimpse into the world of the characters in the paintings, and the artists who created them.

Tour of the House - Chatsworth, its creators and its treasures:
This longer private guided tour brings Chatsworth and the family's history to life, and takes in the masterpieces from the Devonshire Collection which are on view throughout the richly decorated rooms. For the best possible experience, we recommend that your tour is arranged to begin no later than 10.45am, before the house opens to general visitors.

Tour of the Garden - lasts for approx 2 hours:
The 105 acre garden that surrounds Chatsworth has many important historical and horticultural features from the last five centuries, some of them world famous. It also has many secluded areas, and in this extended tour, one of our tour guides will take you on a full tour of the principal sites of the garden. Please note that this tour involves a lot of walking.

Greenhouses Tour - lasts for approx 1 ¼ hours
Most of the greenhouses at Chatsworth are not open to visitors to minimise heat loss. One of Chatsworth gardeners leads the tour, which gives you a privileged glimpse inside the modern Display Greenhouse which houses a huge diversity of flora in three climates, and the opportunity to learn about the history of these diverse plants. You will also visit some of the greenhouses used by the estate to grow a wide variety of food, learning about their production processes.

Behind the Scenes Tour of the House - lasts for approx 1 ½ hours:
The ultimate private tour, going behind locked doors to see how Chatsworth works, and learn about the current Masterplan, which is transforming the services and fabric of the house. You will see Chatsworth through the eyes of a member of the House Team. This is an opportunity to explore the working parts that are integral to the maintenance and preservation of the house. Where possible, the tour includes the cellars, the joiners shop (formerly the Old Victorian Kitchen), and, weather permitting, the roof.
