Access & enquiries
Scholarly research
The Collections team takes enquiries from post-graduate students, scholars and bona fide researchers. Post-graduate students should indicate their thesis title and, if applying to visit the archives, should include a letter of support from their university supervisor. Because the team is small, they are sadly unable to answer enquiries from, or offer research facilities to, undergraduate, college or school students.
Family history
The archives contain some good records for family history enquiries, but do not include full staff lists for all periods, particularly for people employed before the early 20th century. The archivists can usually do free preliminary research in response to a written family history enquiry. Where appropriate, visits to the archives can then be arranged, subject to reading fees.
Appointments and reading fees
Appointments can be made between 1 April and 29 October 2010, Mondays to Fridays (excluding Bank Holidays), 9.30am to 4.30pm.
A Reading Fee of £25.00 (inc. VAT) is charged per person, per day or part of day. The department reserves the right to vary this fee. Payment must be made, in cash or by sterling cheque drawn on a London bank, at the end of the visit. Cheques should be made payable to Chatsworth Settlement Trustees. Please note that we are unable to accept payment by credit card.
