1908
Victor Cavendish Grandson of 7th Duke and nephew of the 8th Duke became 9th Duke of Devonshire. Married Lady Evelyn (Evie) Fitzmaurice, daughter of 5th Marquess of Lansdowne.

The 9th Duke and his wife undertook major restoration work in the house.

1938
Edward Cavendish became 10th Duke of Devonshire. Married Lady Mary Cecil, daughter of 4th Marquess of Salisbury.

The 10th Duke invited the girls of Penrhos College to move in during the war. In 1944 his eldest son, William, married Kathleen Kennedy (sister of President Kennedy), but was killed in action later that year.

Andrew Cavendish became 11th Duke of Devonshire. Married Hon. Deborah Mitford, daughter of 2nd Lord Redesdale.

11th Duke inherited the Estate with 80% death duties which took 24 years to pay.

1981

The self-supporting Chatsworth House Trust was set up to ensure the long-term survival of the House and Collection. The family have added to the collection and the Garden.

Restoration projects have included re-roofing the House and the stables, cleaning painted walls and ceilings and renewing the turbines.

The farmyard, restaurant and shops have been established.

2004
Peregrine Cavendish, became 12th Duke of Devonshire. Married Amanda Heywood-Lonsdale, daughter of Commander Heywood-Lonsdale.
