Our philosophy at Chatsworth is to leave you in peace to enjoy your visit, free to choose where to go and what to discover.
In the house our team of room guides is always happy answer your questions as you explore at your own pace. If you would like to learn more there are many different ways to do so. Our beautifully produced guidebook tells the story of the house and its personalities through stunning photography and information from in-house experts. Audio guides are available to hire for adults and children, giving you the chance to hear from members of the family and the teams that work behind the scenes. For a guided tour turn up on the day and sign up for a tour at 12 noon or 2pm.
In the garden , there are clear signs directing you to all the principal features. The new, award-winning 64 page garden guidebook brings the landscape to life, explaining its history and offering a number of trails around the garden. Colourful panels explain the life and work of Sir Joseph Paxton, the great Victorian head gardener.
In the farmyard animals, demonstrations and activities attract visitors of all ages. Themed weeks on different topics occur through the seasons, and the farmyard team is always happy to answer questions on all aspects of its work.
Try our trailer rides in the woods and park, available on most days, with a full commentary explaining the landscape and its features.
You can also book a private guided tour of the house, the garden or the greenhouses in advance, for an extra charge. They offer a more detailed insight into Chatsworth and different aspects of its history.
Opening times
The 1000 acre park and the farmshop and its restaurant are open all year round. The house, garden, farmyard, gift shops and restaurant are closed, and will re-open on 12 March 2008
