Chatsworth monumental sculpture show - biggest yet

Beyond Limits 4, Sotheby's at Chatsworth - Dancers, 2007, Fernando Botero

Antony Gormley, Henry Moore, Marc Quinn and Richard Hudson will be the British representatives amongst the cast of leading international artists confirmed for 'Beyond Limits', the monumental sculpture exhibition held at Chatsworth in Derbyshire's Peak District (High-resolution images of some sculptures mentioned here are available on request or sign in to this media centre).

Running from Monday 14 September until Sunday 1 November, Beyond Limits 2009 has the most varied and challenging selection yet, from floating stainless steel balls in a 19th century pond, (Yayoi Kusama's 'Narcissus Garden: Chatsworth') to 49 copper plates set into the grass (Carl Andre's 'Cuprox').  The exhibition will feature more than 25 monumental modern and contemporary outdoor sculptures by artists from 14 countries including Fernando Botero, Subodh Gupta, Ju Ming, and Yayoi Kusama.

The exhibition is currently being installed with new works arriving and being placed in position on a weekly basis in Chatsworth's world-famous, 105-acre garden, designed by Capability Brown and Joseph Paxton. This is the fourth year Beyond Limits has been held at Chatsworth and its growing popularity is expected to draw thousands of art-lovers, collectors and casual visitors, both young and old.

All exhibits will be on display from 11am-6pm every day at no extra charge beyond normal garden admission, standard adult garden ticket is £7.50 or book online to save 10%.

A cast iron, life-size maquette (images available on request) of Antony Gormley's world-renowned 'Angel of the North' will be one of the star attractions of Sotheby's largest and most diverse selling exhibition seen at Chatsworth to date. Taking a prime position at the end of the Canal Pond, the 1:10 scale maquette is the second cast in an edition of five and marks a definitive stage in the development of Gormley's sculpture as it transcended from human to gargantuan proportions.

The sculptures at Beyond Limits will sit alongside the many permanent sculptures on display at Chatsworth. In the past 15 years, the Chatsworth House Trust and the Devonshire family have continued the purchase and commissioning of contemporary sculpture for display in the garden and park, including work by Dame Elisabeth Frink, Angela Conner, Barry Flanagan, David Nash and Allen Jones.
