Our own calf born at Chatsworth
For the first time since the Farmyard opened in 1973 we have had our own calf born here. In the past we have always bought calves in and borrowed the dairy cows from Chatsworth. This has all had to change and we now own our own dairy cows (a herd of three!) which have to have calves every year in order top keep producing milk. We need to keep our cows in milk so that we can perform our ever popular daily milking demonstration. Oliver was born on 23 February to our Jersey cow Opal and definitely has the aaah factor. Another of our cows, Bella an Ayrshire cow and new on the scene is due to calve on 18 March.
