International garden award for Dowager Duchess

The Missouri Botanical Garden, USA presented
their highest honour, the Henry Shaw Medal, to
the Dowager Duchess of Devonshire on 27 July
2004 in recognition of her contribution to the
Garden at Chatsworth. The medal was presented
by the Garden's Director, Dr. Peter Raven, on
a visit to Chatsworth.

Henry Shaw was inspired by his visit to Chatsworth
in July 1851, where he saw the work of Joseph Paxton, which ultimately led to the setting up of the
Missouri Botanical Garden.
