Inspired by Chatsworth

In July 2006, Wilsthorpe Business and Enterprise College, supported by Derbyshire Local Authority, brought a group of gifted and talented students from Long Eaton to Chatsworth for a weekend summer camp. Among them were a group of year 8 (12/13 years old) students, who made a film to record their impressions of the changing face of Chatsworth, and some A level art students who recorded their impressions through drawing, painting and sculpture.

Their visit coincided with the installation of the 2006 'Beyond Limits' sculpture exhibition. The exhibition was visited by over a thousand school, college and university students and generated some spectacular artwork from them. This year, the exhibition will return again in September, when many more students will be able to see world class art in a world class landscape.

These short excerpts show just some of the aspects of Chatsworth that inspired the young people. Later in the summer an exhibition of their artwork will be on public display in the conservatory of the Carriage House Restaurant.

We are very grateful to Wilsthorpe Business and Enterprise College from Long Eaton for allowing us to show you the excerpts and in particular to Jane Hodges and Jo Beattie, the project co-ordinators.
