Having seen examples of his work inspired by recent visits to Chatsworth, the Duke agreed to Matthew's request to paint him. The ¾ length portrait will hang on view to visitors for 3 months, seen in the context of portraits and paintings by artists such as Rembrandt, Joshua Reynolds and Lucian Freud.

The Duke of Devonshire says: 'It was a pleasure to sit for Matthew. He was friendly, calm, professional and on time. I cannot say whether his portrait of me is a good likeness or not; that is for others to decide. I am sure he has a great future ahead of him.'

Matthew Cox says : ' When I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to paint the Duke's portrait I was very nervous and excited and felt a great relief when the portraits were approved. I am hoping to go to University to study art in the future and I am already taking orders for portraits from members of staff at my school. It has been a fantastic year in art for me and one I will never forget.'
