Chatsworth for young people

We warmly welcome visitors of every age to Chatsworth. The house, garden and farmyard are full of things that children enjoy and can learn from.

The farmyard, with its animal handling and many activities and demonstrations, and the huge woodland adventure playground, are specifically designed to entertain and delight young people, and you can also pre-book the use of the party hut in the playground (small extra charge).

On most days there are trailer rides through the woods or park, with an informative commentary appropriate to all ages. Blackboards show times; please pay at the trailer.

Children relaxing in the house

Young people at Chatsworth

The garden is an endless source of delight, play and relaxation. The maze and the waterworks provide hours of fun and exploration, but everywhere you turn there are wonderful things to see, touch, smell and discover, with intriguing sculptures, a Victorian tunnel, the herbs and vegetables of the kitchen garden and a giant rock garden. The Sensory garden is a fascinating experience for children. The garden guidebook contains a number of trail maps, one specifically designed with families in mind.

In the house, the children's guide, 'Look at Chatsworth', which is on sale in the entrance hall, guides children to ask questions and seek out various unusual objects, images and stories through the house. An answer sheet is provided at the end of the house route. Room wardens will also be happy to point things out and answer questions.

The shops, particularly in the farmyard, offer books and gifts of relevance and interest to children and children are welcome in all catering outlets.
