Welcome to the Carriage House restaurant
Winner of the Best Restaurant within a visitor attraction at the Derbyshire Food and Drink 2007 awards, the Carriage House restaurant offers freshly made local and seasonal food, prepared by Chatsworth's team of chefs and bakers.
Located in the beautiful 18th century stable block designed by James Paine, the Carriage House is a fully licensed, self-service restaurant, offering a wide variety of home made food and drink.
The Cavendish Tearooms have a sophisticated and luxurious new look following a recent re-design and refurbishment, led by the Duchess of Devonshire. With a waitress service and home made bakery-themed menu, the restaurant offers a relaxing space to enjoy special lunches and afternoon teas.

The Duchess of Devonshire writes
'I do hope you enjoy the restaurant when you visit. We are very proud of our team of chefs and bakers, who make all the food here, with a particular emphasis on local, seasonal ingredients. We have recently refurbished the entire space, and I have chosen my favourite strong, warm colours to make this large stone room as welcoming and comfortable as possible. We are also delighted to be able to show the new paintings of Chatsworth by Kitty North, a Yorkshire artist and friend, which we have recently added to the collection.'
New paintings by Kitty North in the restaurant
Kitty North first visited the Duke and Duchess at Chatsworth in June 2006, and shortly afterwards began a series of twenty-one paintings, of which eighteen are on view. Each painting explores the artist’s emotional responses to the place, which are best described in her own words:
“My first impression was that Chatsworth was like a jewel in the landscape and that its position is perfect! The beauty, art, heritage, and history at Chatsworth are all exceptional.”
Her aim was to encapsulate the themes of legacy, history, custodianship, happiness, pleasure, love, shared worlds, and family. She uses diminutive figures, the sun, the moon, the House and colour to achieve this, the scale and positioning of the figures within individual canvases being very important.
