Welcome to Russian Cottage. This is the latest holiday cottage that I have renovated and decorated. It is certainly the most interesting historically, and has the best views. Our team of Craftsmen have used their skills to create a very special place to stay. I hope you have a lovely time.
Amanda Devonshire
Russian Cottage was built following a gift of a model of a Russian Farm to the 6th Duke of Devonshire in 1855 from the brother of Tsar Nicholas of Russia. The Tsar and the 6th Duke had become friends following the Duke's visit to Russia in 1816 when he served as the British Ambassador to Moscow. An exchange visit in 1844 was planned but unfortunately the Tsar had to cancel his visit. Instead the Duke was sent an intricate model of a Russian farmhouse as a reminder and keepsake, from which came the inspiration to build Russian Cottage.
Russian Cottage is situated in a secluded location near Calton Lees overlooking farmland. Accessed along a private track through bluebell woods Russian Cottage offers the perfect getaway, but is still only a 25 minute walk through the Park to Chatsworth.
The accommodation is on one level, with some steps in places, and consists of:
Large well equipped dining kitchen including a dishwasher and microwave. Separate utility room with washer/dryer. Drawing room with superb views across the Calton Lees Valley, and log burning stove. One double en-suite bedroom and one twin bedroom with separate bathroom.
Please note that pets are not allowed at Russian Cottage and that access to the cottage is along a track which is unsuitable for cars with low ground clearance.
Russian Cottage is surrounded by its own garden with outdoor furniture.
