This new acquisition by the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire, a series of paintings by Kitty North, are displayed in the Carriage House restaurant. The paintings are all 5 x 6 foot, oil on canvas.

The artist Kitty North writes:
The starting point for the Chatsworth series of paintings is the Duke and the Duchess. They left Bolton Abbey in Yorkshire to move to Chatsworth in January 2006.

Chatsworth is a jewel in the landscape. The beauty, the heritage, the history, and the art at Chatsworth are exceptional.

The approach I have taken in the paintings is a very simple one. I have tried to convey themes of, custodianship, legacy, history, pleasure, love, happiness, shared worlds, family, using small figures, the house, the sun, moon, the seasons and colour as landscape or place.

The Figures in the paintings are families, couples, kiteflyers, walkers. They are all part of a shared Chatsworth experience.
