Outdoor Education Officer
Full time, term time only (3 year fixed term post), based at Chatsworth 

The Ernest Cook Trust and the Devonshire Educational Trust are seeking to appoint a full time Outdoor Education Officer based at Chatsworth. We are looking for an enthusiastic person with a passion for outdoor education to deliver an innovative programme of curriculum linked visits that will utilise the delivery experience developed by the Ernest Cook Trust.

Applicants should have teaching experience, knowledge of the National Curriculum and an appreciation and understanding of the countryside and estate settings such as Chatsworth.

It is essential that you are a confident and inspiring deliverer, have experience of working with a range of ages, have good organisational skills and are a confident user of IT.

This is a 3 year fixed term post, working full time during term time – which is equivalent to 4 days per week over the course of the year. Applicants will be subject to a 6 month probationary period and a satisfactory DBS check.

Part-time Payroll Officer
2 days per week

An interesting opportunity has arisen for an experienced payroll professional of a part-time, temporary 12 month contract.

As Payroll Officer you will join an existing team of two officers based at Chatsworth. You will concentrate on the collation of payroll information for the Devonshire Hotels and Restaurant Group, which is based in North Yorkshire and forms part of the wider Devonshire Group; ensuring accurate information for payroll submission on a monthly basis. 

We are currently introducing a Time and Attendance system throughout the Group and this role will play a key part in the implementation process.  However until T&A is implemented, your duties will involve a great deal of manual input into several different Excel spreadsheets.    Using these spreadsheets you will input employee hours, add new starters, remove leavers, action changes and calculate holiday and absence information.

Applicants should therefore be able to demonstrate a good knowledge of payroll and experience of collating hours worked.  You should be numerate, with intermediate level excel and have good communication skills, able to liaise with employers across the Group at all levels in a friendly and knowledgeable manner. 

Hours of work total 14 hours per week, from 9.00am to 5.00pm on Monday and either Tuesday or Wednesday each week, to be agreed.    Flexibility is required within reason to ensure payroll is processed on time, which may require you to work additional hours once a month.

Assistant Shepherd

A full-time, permanent vacancy has arisen for an experienced shepherd to work on a modern, progressive sheep unit on the Chatsworth Estate. 

Working alongside the Head Shepherd and the Farm Manager, you will undertake all tasks associated with 4000 sheep of different breeds, lambing both indoors and outdoors.  Your duties will also include; day to day flock management, maintaining equipment, walling and fencing, and ensuring general tidiness of sheep buildings and surrounding areas.   On occasion you will also assist with cattle, silage and hay making and other land work as required.

You should have at least one fully trained working dog, and a driver’s licence that covers you to tow a livestock trailer.   Experience in operating tractors and other agricultural vehicles including forklift trucks would be desirable. 

We offer a competitive salary and suitable accommodation will be provided as the position requires someone to live onsite or in close proximity to the Estate.

Chef de Partie

A full-time, permanent opportunity has arisen within our friendly catering team at Chatsworth. 

As part of the team you will work with the senior chefs to help with the development and training of junior members of the kitchen staff. You will also assist with the creation of new dishes and menus, using seasonal, fresh produce from local suppliers wherever possible.

You should be able to demonstrate a genuine desire to deliver food of the highest quality in all sections of the business. You will have experienced time spent as section leader and will also be keen to assist in maintaining our exemplary health & safety and hygiene practices. 

This is a full time position working 40 hours per week, five days out of seven on a rota basis. Flexibility will be essential to meet the needs of the business; however, the majority of the work will be 9.00am-5.30pm.

Assistant Supervisor
Cavendish Club
Full time Tuesday to Saturday

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a permanent Assistant Supervisor at The Cavendish Club - a friendly, private club based at the Estate Office, Edensor; serving drinks and food to employees, tenants and members of the Chatsworth sport clubs.

You will support the Supervisor in the efficient running and management of the Club and manage bookings for the adjacent Cavendish Hall, providing a first class customer experience at all times.

Your duties will include:  ensuring there are adequate staffing levels, monitoring training requirements, supervising evening functions,   cash reconciliations and ensuring stock levels are checked and maintained and the end of day close-down.

Previous supervisory or management experience in a catering environment with   experience of cash handling and ensuring high quality food and hygiene standards is essential.  The ability to work on your own initiative, communicate effectively and motivate a team to work well under pressure is also important.

Experience of handling recruitment, appraisals, and in devising new business ideas is desirable. Applicants must be aged 18 or over as you will be required to serve alcohol.

Hours of work total 40 per week on a rota basis, working day shifts, late evenings and weekends, depending on the needs of the Club – which is currently open Tuesday to Saturday. As such, a flexible approach to work is required.

Casual Fitness Instructor & Lifeguard

An opportunity is available for a professional gym instructor to work on a casual basis, covering for holiday, sickness and at busy times within the private gymnasium on the Chatsworth estate; opening hours Monday to Friday (7.00am to 8.00pm) and Saturday, Sunday and Bank Holidays (8.00am to 1.30pm). 

The Chatsworth Gym is small but well equipped, with both male and female sauna facilities and a separate pool and tennis court.  You will work mainly in the gym providing inductions and training whilst paying attention to swimmers in the pool via CCTV; assisting at pool side occasionally.    Applicants must have the ability to provide excellent customer service, whilst actively giving professional advice, guidance and encouragement to all members of the gymnasium, swimming pool and tennis club.  Due to the casual nature of work offered, flexibility is essential. 

Ideally applicants should have a level 3 advanced fitness instructor certificate or a recognised leisure management qualification with relevant experience working in the leisure industry.  A lifeguard qualification (NPLQ/ RLSS) and a current first aid at work certificate are essential.

Casual Car Park Assistants

Friendly and enthusiastic individuals are sought to join the car parking team on a casual - as and when required basis. 

You will often be the first person our visitors meet when arriving by car at Chatsworth and therefore you should be a friendly, positive person, able to greet customers and provide information in a warm but professional manner. 

You will direct visitors to suitable car parking spaces and assist in keeping the visitor areas neat and tidy by litter picking and maintaining the cleanliness of the visitor lavatories.   

Applicants need not be experienced but must be entirely customer focused with great people skills.  A driver’s license is desirable as you may be asked to drive company vehicles.  Applicants must be comfortable working outside in all weathers and be willing to undertake a Basic DBS Disclosure check.  

Hours of work will vary but you will usually work between the hours of 8.00am and 5.30pm, Monday to Sunday.

Visitor Welcome Assistants

Enthusiastic, cheerful individuals with excellent customer service skills are sought to fill interesting roles at front of house positions within the house, garden, farmyard and car park admission points. 

You will provide a positive and friendly welcome to visitors to Chatsworth, whilst actively promoting the sale of tickets, guide books, audios, and tours. An important part of your duties will be to maintain constant vigilance and awareness in order to provide safety and security to the house, garden, their contents and the people within them. 

You should have previous experience of cash handling and till work and an excellent understanding of health and safety with the ability to think and act clearly and logically in the event of an emergency. Above all you should have a passion for delivering world class customer service to engage our visitors and enhance their learning experience. 

Work will be offered during weekends, school holidays, Christmas and other peak times; applicants must have good availability for work during these periods.    Hours of work total 4 per day, between the hours of 8.00am and 6.00pm.   Applicants must be willing to provide 2 references and undergo a Basic DBS Disclosure check.

Casual Bakery Assistant 

Casual hours are available within the catering bakery department, working on an ad hoc, as and when required basis. 

You will be working in a busy kitchen bakery, producing top quality bakery and patisserie products for the Carriage House, Cavendish Restaurant, Flying Childers and special events.  You will also be required to help with the monthly stock counts for the bakery and the recording and monitoring of all wastage.  

Applicants must be able to work well under pressure whilst assisting in the delivery of bakery products to a high standard.    An awareness of health and safety and food hygiene is essential.    Previous bakery experience is preferred but training will be provided.
