Assistant Curator
Maternity Cover

An important post is available for immediate start for a curator with decorative arts expertise to join our Collections department on a full-time, temporary basis.

This exciting and varied post also includes assisting the high standards of collections care and display on the visitor route as well as assisting with conservation projects and supporting the research and delivery of exhibitions; applicants must therefore show an interest in interpreting collections. 

You will also contribute to cataloguing and documentation on KE Emu database, respond to internal and external enquiries and help with the recruitment and co-ordination of our friendly volunteer team.    

You should have experience of working to tight deadlines, excellent organizational and administrative skills, with attention to detail and the ability to prioritise.  Proven people skills, and the willingness to support the team wherever necessary is essential. 

A thorough working knowledge of Microsoft Office software and experience using a collections management system is also essential. 

Applicants should hold a degree in a relevant field or curatorial experience and have a minimum of two years’ or equivalent experience of working in an exhibition, museum or historic house environment.  

Hours of work total 37.5 per week from 9.00am to 5.30pm Monday to Friday.  Flexibility is essential in order to meet project and exhibition deadlines and may include working evenings and weekends on occasion.

Garden Production Assistant 
Part-time, 16 hours per week

A new and interesting opportunity is available within the garden team at Chatsworth to prepare, deliver and present plants and cut flower for sale on the Chatsworth Estate.

Working as part of a team you will help deliver well-presented, quality flowers and potted plants for sale at the Farm Shop, ensuring excellent presentation and labelling to promote sales. You will also assist with the preparation and delivery of plants and fresh produce for the Stables Shop.

As part of the role you are responsible for transporting plants and flowers around the Estate and local area; a valid driver’s licence is therefore essential.

The successful candidate will have an interest in floristry and horticulture, be creative and have an eye for detail.   Previous floristry experience is desirable but not essential as full training will be provided.   

You must be willing to drive, and work both in and outdoors; helping in other areas of the garden as required.

This is a one year, fixed term contract working 16 hours per week.   Flexibility is available with regards the work pattern, however we are ideally seeking a candidate that is available to work 5 mornings per week, one day to be a weekend. Full time Outdoor Education Officer 
The Devonshire Educational Trust 
6 month fixed-term 

An exciting opportunity is available for an enthusiastic person with a passion for outdoor education to oversee our programme for a 6 month fixed term.

Chatsworth currently offers a range of educational activities which showcase the wealth of historic, environmental and artistic learning opportunities on the estate. This post will focus on the development and delivery of our expanding outdoor education programme but will also work within the wider education team, taking part in a range of educational activities. 

Our existing outdoor education programme uses the mature woodland and gardens at Chatsworth to run activities such as Woodland Discovery walks and Den Building sessions. We are looking to expand out outdoor offer and also market to and engage with a wider range of schools, youth and community groups.

It is essential that you are a confident deliverer, have experience of working with a range of ages, have good organisational skills and a proficiency in Microsoft Office and Outlook. Marketing and sales experience to schools and youth groups would be an advantage.

This is a six month fixed term post.  You will work a 37.5 hour week, however, flexibility in working hours is very important in this role with weekend working and start and finish times outside normal working hours not unusual.

Customer Service Assistants 
Estate Farm Shop

Permanent and casual positions are available in the Estate Farm Shop and Café - renowned for its seasonal produce and warm, friendly service.

The roles are varied and interesting; providing the opportunity to work in all customer service areas of the Estate farm shop, including: the delicatessen, tills, fish counter, butchery and restaurant. You will also have the opportunity to work within the farm shop café, working front of house serving customers, and in the kitchen pot wash and food preparation areas

Positions are available working single shifts or a combination of the shifts below:

Position 1: Sunday – 7 hours from 10am – 5.30pm 
Position 2: Monday – 8 hours from 9am – 5.30pm
Position 3: Tuesday – 6 hours from 11am – 5.30pm 
Position 4: Thursday – 8 hours between the hours of 8.00am – 6.30pm
Position 5: Casual Hours - working as and when required, with flexibility to work both weekdays and weekends.

All staff are required to be flexible, working additional hours to meet the needs of the business, particularly at busy times of the year. 

No experience is necessary as full training will be given, however, you must have excellent customer service skills, be committed, energetic and enjoy working as part of a successful team across all areas of the Estate Farm Shop and Cafe.

Part time Customer Service Assistant
Carriage House Restaurant

A new part time opportunity has become available working in the self-service Carriage House Restaurant within the Stables at Chatsworth, on a seasonal basis until early January 2017. 

Your duties will include: serving customers, working on the till, serving hot drinks, serving hot food, clearing tables and keeping the restaurant clean and tidy. 
 
Previous experience in a restaurant environment is not essential as full training will be provided. Our aim is to always offer the Chatsworth visitor a level of customer service that exceeds expectations and therefore we are looking for applicants who are friendly, committed and enjoy working as part of a team, providing exemplary customer service at all times. 

The position is 21 hours per week, working on a Tuesday (from 11am to 5:30pm) and on a Friday and Sunday (from 9:30am to 5:30pm).

Cavendish Club Catering Assistants
Evening Hours

The Cavendish club is a friendly private club based at the Estate Office, Edensor serving drinks and food to employees, tenants and members of the Chatsworth sport clubs. 

You will help with the smooth operation of the club by working effectively within a small team; serving drinks and snacks from the bar, serving food at tables and supporting the kitchen during busy service. 

You must possess great people skills and be happy to maintain the excellent level of customer service enjoyed at the club. Experience of cash handling would be beneficial but is not essential. 

Applicants must be aged 18 or over as you will be required to serve alcohol.

Post 1 
Casual work, on an as and when required basis, is available on Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings from 5pm to 11pm.

Part-time Cleaning Operative
Farmyard & Adventure Playground 
12 hours per week

A permanent opportunity has arisen in the Farmyard and Adventure Playground, working throughout the season from late March to early January each year.  

You will ensure the Farmyard and Adventure Playground is kept to a high standard, raking and sweeping paths and yards, litter picking and emptying bins and cleaning public and staff toilets.  You will also support the department by helping with other duties.

You should be able to work both in a team and on your own initiative, making sure the Farmyard and Adventure Playground facilities reflect the Chatsworth quality. It is essential that you are reliable and ready to work flexibly for the smooth running of the business. Previous experience of cleaning is not required but would be beneficial.

Hours of work total 12 per week, from 7.00am to 10.00am on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Flexibility is essential and you will have the opportunity to increase your hours to help with holiday cover.
