Chief Financial Officer

We are seeking a first class CFO to play a pivotal role in the group’s positioning and continued commercial development, to work closely with the Chief Executive and the wider estate. The Role:

  •  Act as a true business partner to the Chief Executive and play a prominent role in shaping the group’s strategy and delivering it
  •  Lead and direct group finance and IT functions. Oversee production of consolidated monthly accounts for all Devonshire Group enterprises
  •  Enhance group wide financial, management information and communication systems
  •  Review capital investments, play an important role on major restoration, construction and redevelopment projects
  •  Assume responsibility for all company secretarial matters
  •  Lead relationships with banks, delivering a treasury function for all Devonshire estates 

The Candidate:

  • Graduate calibre, qualified Accountant with experience gained in senior financial leadership roles overseeing teams in multiple locations 
  • Professional experience with trusts and property management and development is a strong preference, but not a prerequisite
  • Strategic business acumen and the ability to evaluate potential growth opportunities within a complex and unconventional business model
  • Well organised with forensic attention to financial detail
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and able to deal with a diverse set of stakeholders, including the Duke of Devonshire, his family, trustees and employees at all levels combined with an inquisitive and passionate approach to driving the business forward

Casual Security Officer

An interesting Security Officer post has arisen working on an ad hoc, as and when required basis. The shifts will mostly be 12 hours but occasionally shorter shifts may be required and will include both day and evenings shifts to cover for holidays, absence and other events.

The successful applicant will provide an efficient service and warm welcome to a wide range of people including VIP’s, visitors, staff and the emergency services.

Flexibility will be a key element of the role and all applicants must possess excellent communication skills, able to deliver great customer care without compromising security.

You should be able to work in a calm and competent manner both alone and as part of a team; have previous experience of working with computers; maintaining vigilant observations; monitor and respond quickly and appropriately to intruder alarm, fire alarm and local monitoring systems and CCTV.

You should also be able to carry out efficient security patrols including internal, external and mobile patrols; operate control room equipment and maintain routine security records. 

Previous experience in a similar role would be advantageous.  Applicants must be prepared to undergo a DBS check and hold a full driving licence.

Sous Chef

(Day time service with occasional evening work – no split shifts)

A rare opportunity has arisen for an experienced Sous Chef within the catering team at Chatsworth; delivering a range of quality homemade produce within our day time businesses which include the large self-service Carriage House Restaurant and the smart,  table service Cavendish Restaurant. 

You will also assist in the production of food for both large and small scale hospitality events during the day and evening including weddings, corporate and fine dining events

Supervising a team of over ten, working in various disciplines including bakery and sandwich production, you will ensure a smooth and efficient operation is maintained, producing high volume and high quality food.
 
Previous experience of working in a sous chef or junior sous chef role, producing quality food with fresh ingredients in a large kitchen is essential, together with a passion for producing food of a first class standard and sound kitchen management skill.

Sound knowledge of HACCP and COSHH regulations is essential with the ability to maintain excellent health and safety and hygiene standards.

This is a full time position working 40 hours per week from 9am to 5.30pm with a weekend off every 4 to 8 weeks and a requirement to work evenings for special events.

Higher Education Development Officer

(One year fixed term)

An exciting opportunity is available for a Development Officer to join the education department at Chatsworth.

Chatsworth currently offer a range of educational activities which showcase the wealth of historic, environmental and artistic learning opportunities. This new posts seeks to research and develop our existing links with higher education institutes in order to enhance our current offerings in order to meet the needs of this sector.

When targeting new business and investigating potential projects from the higher education sector you will get the opportunity to work with a great range of internal staff as well as external partners and educational establishments – so excellent communication and negotiation skills are essential. You should be a creative, dynamic and highly motivated individual with a passion for the role.

It is essential that you have good numeracy skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office including Excel and Outlook.

In addition, you will have knowledge and understanding of the higher education sector with previous experience of marketing to schools and educational groups. It would be advantageous if you had good contacts within this sector and have up to date knowledge of education policy and networks.

Flexibility in working hours is available by mutual agreement. You will work 520 hours over the one year period – this could be 10 hours over one and a half days each week or more hours during term time only.

Management Accountant
Qualified Accountant (or part qualified finalist)

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a qualified accountant (or part qualified finalist) within the Devonshire Group Finance Function based at the Chatsworth Estate Office, suitable for a candidate who is looking to develop and grow within their next role.

The Devonshire Group is the working name of the trusts, businesses and charities connected to the Duke of Devonshire, including Chatsworth and the Estates in Yorkshire and Sussex.

You will report to the Financial Controller and will work closely with the Commercial Finance Managers to provide accounting support to the Devonshire Group Businesses, initially focusing on the Trading and Derbyshire Estates divisions of the Group. However, you may also provide support for other areas of the group businesses and potential is available to widen or vary your role. 

You will also support Senior Management by providing financial and non-financial management information and working closely with them to develop budgets, forecasts and strategic plans. You will be responsible for preparing management accounts as well as completing VAT, Statutory and Government Statistical Returns.

Working closely with the IT Team, you will develop and maintain of the Group’s Finance and Business Systems, providing system administration and support where appropriate.

You will be qualified (or part qualified finalist) with one of the recognised accounting bodies, with at least two years’ experience within a finance function. You will be a self-starter, with experience of working to deadlines and with the confidence to communicate with senior management.  You will be IT literate with strong Excel skills and previous experience of both accounting and MI systems.

Experience in Estates Management, Retail or Catering businesses and/or experience in the development and maintenance of finance and business systems would be an advantage.

Casual Car Park Assistants

Friendly and enthusiastic individuals are sought to join the car parking team on a casual - as and when required basis.

You will often be the first person our visitors meet when arriving at Chatsworth and therefore you should be a friendly, positive person, able to greet customers and provide information in a warm but professional manner.

You will direct visitors to suitable car parking spaces and assist in keeping the visitor areas neat and tidy by litter picking and maintaining the cleanliness of the visitor lavatories.

Hours of work will vary but you will usually work between the hours of 8.00am and 5.30pm, Monday to Sunday.   Applicants need not be experienced but must be entirely customer focused with great people skills.

Cavendish Club Catering Assistants

5pm to 11pm Tuesday & Friday or Wednesday & Saturday
(or 4 days as above)

Permanent positions are available at the Cavendish club, based at the Estate Office, Edensor. The Cavendish club is a friendly private club serving drinks and food to employees, tenants and members of the Chatsworth sport clubs.

You will help with the smooth operation of the club by working effectively within a small team, serving drinks and snacks behind the bar, serving food to diners and supporting the kitchen during busy service.

You will assist customers, resolve enquiries and serve food and drinks quickly and efficiently. Experience of cash handling would be beneficial but is not essential.

You must possess great people skills and be happy to provide the excellent level of customer service enjoyed at the club.

These positions are permanent with the possibility of increased hours to cover holidays. Flexibility is essential, particularly at busy periods. Applications for a 4 day week will be considered.

Casual Housekeeping/Butler Roles
The Duke & Duchess of Devonshire’s Private Household

Applications are invited from local people and Chatsworth employees to assist on a casual basis in the private apartments at Chatsworth, helping out when the household is busy entertaining or with house guests.

There are various roles available including: supporting our friendly housekeeping team in cleaning, polishing, bed making, tidying as well as assisting in the comfort of guests and the Family or helping in the pantry - washing crockery and serving food at dinner parties. 

Complete confidentiality and attention to detail is a prerequisite, as is a sense of humour.
Previous experience is not required as full training will be provided.

HR Administrator
(One year full time fixed term post)

An opportunity has arisen of an interesting and diverse HR administrator post within the HR team at Chatsworth.

You will assist the team with the production of contracts of employment and other documents relating to new starters, leavers and any changes to employment terms.

Working directly with the Head of Group HR, you will provide support with general administration, travel, purchases and projects.  This will include the arranging of events and social activities, often for large numbers of people, for which you must be extremely organized. 

An excellent grasp of grammar, report and letter construction, with the ability to produce advertisements for recruitment and clear and concise template documents for use by the Devonshire Group is essential. 

A background in HR with experience of databases would be an advantage but is not essential.  You must be able to demonstrate the ability to write professionally and concisely and possess good organizational abilities. You should be a competent user of the Microsoft office suite including word, excel and power point.

Live in Part Time Housekeeper      (Accommodation for a couple)
The Duke & Duchess of Devonshire’s Private Residence in Yorkshire - Bolton Hall at Bolton Abbey

An experienced housekeeper is required to live on site in a two bedroom flat next to, but separate from, the main residence of Bolton Hall which is set in the beautiful grounds of Bolton Priory.  The flat is available for occupation by a couple.

The housekeeper will work part time, around 20 hours per week, maintaining the residence in good order in the owner’s absence. 

When the owners and/or their family reside in the Hall (for several weeks each year) the Housekeeper will work full time, employing temporary assistance when required. For large house parties assistance will be provided from Chatsworth.

The Housekeeper will report to the Private Head Housekeeper based at Chatsworth and also the agent of the Bolton Abbey estate but will be self-managed for the greater part of the year taking responsibility for all domestic arrangements within the Hall including:, cleaning, polishing, attending to laundry and arranging maintenance repairs. The housekeeper must be competent in handling antiques and precious objects.

Complete confidentiality and attention to detail is a prerequisite, as is a sense of humour.

The role is 5 part days per week, however, flexibility is essential with a requirement to be adaptable, reacting as appropriate to the situation,  including working longer hours and weekends when the owners are in occupation.
