Senior Supervisor
Garden

Chatsworth, home of the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire and winner of many awards is seeking applicants for an exciting new post.   You will be working within a diverse garden covering over a hundred acres, consisting of many important layers of development, historic features and most aspects of Horticulture. 

You will report directly to the Head of Gardens & Landscape, taking responsibility with support from a supervisor for ten gardeners, trainees and a large team of volunteers.

This position is varied, balancing hands on gardening with involvement in many areas including training, plant conservation, tree and hedge care, conservation of water and other built features as well as contribution to interpretation and education relating to the garden.

You will develop the gardens team, encouraging and nurturing expertise, delivering appraisals and advising on reward.

Inspired by the Duke and Duchess, there are many exciting projects in the pipeline covering historic and modern gardens features and you will play an important part in delivering them successfully.

Applicants should be trained in horticulture to degree or national diploma level, have a wide plant knowledge, an interest and knowledge of historic gardens, be computer literate and have experience of staff management and training together with practical experience in comparable work. An excellent knowledge of and enthusiasm for plants, experience in the management of herbaceous borders, garden design and arboriculture would be all advantageous.

Casual Relief Switchboard Operators

The switchboard operator is often the first point of contact by our visitor and it is absolutely key that you are able to provide exceptional standards of customer care for each and every enquiry – and these can be many and varied in a day.

You should have some previous experience of telephone work with a proven history of delivering excellent customer service. You must be pleasant, professional and organised and have the ability to work in a busy environment.

You should been an effective administrator, able to manage email correspondence, produce Microsoft word documents and manage databases. You must also be reliable, trustworthy and consistently achieve high standards.  A DBS check will be required.
 
This is a casual position and hours of work are between 9.00am and 5.00pm, 365 days a year.

Senior Visitor Welcome Supervisor
(with first aid training)

A rare opportunity has arisen of the lead role within our team of 4 visitor welcome supervisors at Chatsworth.

This is an exciting and diverse role and you will spend a lot of time talking to our visitors as well as supervising our team welcoming visitors to Chatsworth and collecting payment for entrance to the house, gardens, farmyard and car park. 

Members of this team are often the first people visitors meet when coming to Chatsworth and they are renowned for their excellent customer service and warm welcome. Your role is to build upon these existing strengths and to support the team in exceeding the already high levels of delivery.

You will have experience supervising a large team in a similar heritage or visitor attraction, with a proven track record of inspiring exceptional customer service.

Being responsible for the ticket, guide book and audio tour sales, you will also have a sales focused approach, able to motivate teams in a positive and proactive manner.

You will be fully operational for a large proportion of your time, and the ability to work positively under pressure is essential, as is the ability to organise your time and to work productively as part of a team

An important part of the role is providing first aid for staff and visitors; you should therefore be willing to train in first aid and comfortable dealing with emergencies.  A current first aid certificate or previous experience would be an advantage.  

Strong, practical IT skills are a prerequisite; experience of admission systems would also be a distinct advantage.

This is a permanent job working 40 hours per week beginning March 2015.  You will work alongside the existing visitor welcome supervisors on a rota where regular weekends and occasional evening work is required.
