Private Chef
to the Duke & Duchess of Devonshire 

A rare opportunity has arisen for an ambitious and creative Chef/Cook for the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire’s private household based at Chatsworth.

This is an extremely varied role within a busy household and above all you should be prepared to be flexible; providing all types of food, from cooked breakfasts and simple family suppers for small numbers to extremely high profile fine dining, occasionally for up to fifty guests. 

You will work from a new, modern and well-appointed kitchen alongside our Assistant Chef and aided by our household team, with regular part time staff available to call on to assist with large events. This is a friendly team where a sense of humour is appreciated. 

You should be an experienced chef with an imaginative flair and love of good food, possessing excellent cooking and pastry skills together with an interest in using fresh, local, seasonal ingredients to provide all the meals the household requires. 

You will be based at Chatsworth in Derbyshire but will relocate to Bolton Abbey in Yorkshire for the month of August each year. 

Experience in a private household is an advantage. Some basic IT skills are necessary and a driving license is required due to our location. You should be conversant with all regulations relating to food hygiene and safety including HACCP and COSHH. 

The role is 5 days per week, including split shifts and weekends, averaging 45 hours per week.   Flexibility in hours of work will be required.  An excellent package is available, including independent accommodation in a local estate cottage.

Manager
Chatsworth Estate Farm Shop

An exciting opportunity has become available for a committed and passionate retail manager at our award winning estate farm shop. 

This is a ‘hands on’ role, both office and shop floor based, supporting the Head of the Estate Farm Shop with all operational requirements, taking particular responsibility for IT functions including: rostering, time & attendance and managing the EPOS system. 

An important aspect of the role is staff management and maintaining our outstanding customer care, which you will achieve by: effective recruitment, managing performance, developing individuals and working alongside our trainer to keep customer care standards at the highest levels possible.

You will also assist the HOD with financial procedures including managing and presenting budgets. 

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are required to develop good external relationships with suppliers and internal relationships with your colleagues across the estate. 

You will be required to organise and operate retail events including food fairs, Country fair and the Christmas shop marquee.

You should be a manager, junior manager from a retail background, ideally food related, with experience of managing large teams.   Experience in writing reports, controlling budgets, excellent IT computer skills and an awareness of Health and Safety COSHH and HACCP procedures are also essential.    

Hours of work total 40 per week, working 5 out of 7 on a rota basis which includes weekend and occasional evening work.

Security Officer

An interesting and varied Security Officer post has arisen at Chatsworth which requires both efficiency in security operation and excellent customer care skills.

You will often be at the forefront when visitors arrive and it is therefore essential that you enjoy meeting people and are able to provide a warm and efficient welcome to visitors, VIP’s, staff and the emergency services whilst maintaining awareness.

Previous experience of similar work is desirable including: operating a computer, maintaining vigilant observations; monitoring and responding quickly and appropriately to intruder alarms, fire alarms, local monitoring systems and CCTV; carrying out security patrols, operating control room equipment and maintaining routine security records.    

Flexibility is a key element of this role and all applicants must be able to work in a calm and competent manner both alone and as part of a team.

The post operates on a 12 hour shift pattern, covering 7 days a week - full details will be given during interview. Applicants must be prepared to undergo a DBS check and hold a driving licence.

Assistant Supervisor (Delicatessen)
Estate Farm Shop

A permanent opportunity is available for an individual with passion for food and a keen eye for detail and display; able to create and maintain effective counter displays at our award winning Estate Farm Shop.

Excellent customer service and team leadership skills are also a priority for this role as you will ensure the smooth daily operation of the delicatessen counter under the supervision of the shop supervisor; maintaining high standards at all times. Other duties will include; training and supervision of staff, monitoring and ordering stock, assisting customers, dealing with suppliers, taking orders and serving promptly and efficiently. 

You will also take a leading role of health and safety and hygiene practices, ensuring all areas are clean, tidy and free from hazards. 

You should have a proven record of first rate customer service, be able to work well under pressure and have the potential to supervise a successful team.   Previous supervisory experience and experience working in a food related environment is not essential as full training will be provided, but would be an advantage. 

Hours of work total 40 per week; working 8 hours per day between 8.00am and 6.30pm, Sunday to Thursday with one Saturday in four.   Flexibility is required particularly at busy times.

Junior Pastry Chef 
Catering department 

A career opportunity has arisen for a junior pastry chef within the friendly bakery team at Chatsworth.  

You will gain valuable experience assisting the bakery supervisor in the production of a diverse range of top quality bakery products, all made in house using fresh produce including: cakes and quiches, fine dining deserts, sorbets and ice creams.   

You will also be taught kitchen management including stock and cost control, HACCP procedures, and motivating and developing kitchen staff. 

You should have some previous experience of working in a food production role in a restaurant kitchen or similar environment and awareness of health and safety and food hygiene, together with a genuine desire to deliver products of the highest quality.  Pastry experience is preferred but not essential as full training will be provided. 

Hours of work total 40 per week, working 5 days out of 7 on a rota basis.  Flexibility will be essential to meet the needs of the business; however, the majority of the work will be 9.00am-5.30pm.
