Assistant Chef/Cook

An interesting opportunity has arisen for an Assistant Chef/Cook within the Estate Farm Shop Café. 

You will have the opportunity of using the first class produce available within the farm shop; introducing new seasonal lines and using your innovation skills and experience.  Adding value to the work already carried out by our very successful team, developing new and exciting meals.

The successful applicant will be a chef or cook who can work under pressure, is quick to learn and is well motivated.

This is a permanent position, working 32 hours per week between 8.00am and 4.30pm, usually on a Sunday, Monday, Thursday and Friday. However flexibility will be required, particularly at busy periods.

Part Time Retail Customer Service Assistants

Seasonal Post - March until January 2016.

A varied seasonal role, working in our retails shops in the orangery and stables, as well as our two food-to-go units is available at Chatsworth.

In our retail units you will advise on the selection of an interesting range of quality gifts, pre-packaged foods and other quality merchandise, and whilst working in the food-to-go units, you will service hot and cold drinks, food and snacks.

You should be proactive, engaging with our customers and increasing sales by your excellent customer service standards and product knowledge. Happy to work as part of a team in a busy environment, turning your hand to whatever role is required including sales, stock control, merchandising and cleaning duties.

Candidates should ideally have experience of delivering excellent customer service and operating a till. 

This is a seasonal post working 31 hours per week, Wednesday to Saturday inclusive, from 10am to 6pm in the Orangery & Carriage House Shops or from 9.30am to 6pm in the food-to-go outlets.

Bakery Assistant

A part time Bakery Assistant is sought to join the Catering department in the Chatsworth Stables on a seasonal contract from late March until January 2016.

You will slice and present the cakes and other bakery products made by our bakers, maintaining the excellent and tempting display of products in the Carriage House Restaurant. You will also maintain the supply of bakery products for our prestigious afternoon tea selection available within the Cavendish Rooms.

You must be able to work under pressure and deliver food to a high quality, actively maintaining a clean and tidy kitchen and front of house preparation area.

Excellent food presentation skills and knowledge of food safety are vital for this position.

Hours of work total 32 per week working from 9.00am to 5.30pm from Thursday to Sunday inclusive. Flexibility will be required to meet the needs of the business.

Commis Chef

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Commis Chef within our Catering Department at Chatsworth; providing an opportunity to gain experience in both the production of homemade food for our day visitors and creative dishes for our fine dining customers within the rapidly expanding wedding and events business.

The role offers the successful applicant the opportunity for significant personal development; assisting in and contributing to the delivery of food of the highest standard in all sections of the business.

Exemplary health, safety and hygiene practices are essential.

This is a seasonal position working from March 2015 to January 2016, 40 hours per week,
5 days out of 7 on a rota basis, including weekends. Flexibility will be essential to meet the needs of the business, however, the majority of the work will be between 9.00am-5.30pm.

Head Housekeeper

Due to the retirement of our long serving Head Housekeeper a rare opportunity has arisen of this important and interesting post.

Chatsworth has a large collection of rare pieces and you should therefore be skilled in the general care of antique furniture, fabrics, statuary, flooring and pictures; ensuring that our visitors experience Chatsworth at its best.  You should also have knowledge of the care of more modern materials used at Chatsworth and in our local holiday cottages which fall within your remit.

You will also be a key member of the design team responsible for delivering the extraordinary and diverse special displays and events in the House, including the Christmas visitor experience.

You will take responsibility for a team of people; actively managing their performance and development, creating rotas and controlling budgets.

Applicants will have a good eye for detail plus previous experience in the care of antique and modern articles and in the supervision of domestic staff.  A sound working knowledge of Microsoft office, staff rotas, payroll and budgeting are also required.

This is a full time position, working 40 hours per week from Monday to Friday inclusive with flexibility to work weekends. This position will be subject to a DBS check.

Guides

Opportunities are available for enthusiastic and customer focused individuals to join our Chatsworth guiding team from March up until 6 November 2015 when we start preparing for Christmas at Chatsworth. 

From key positions on the visitor route you will be able to engage with the public whilst ensuring the security of the house and collections. You should have a passion for history and possess excellent communication skills, able to provide a warm greeting to our visitors whilst presenting an exciting introduction into the wonders of Chatsworth; leaving a lasting impression on young and old of the wealth of history and entertainment available to them.

You will also, in time and with training, have the opportunity to deliver short talks and tours both in the house and garden on a regular basis.

You will be a flexible, friendly person who enjoys variety in their role ranging from costumed interpretation through to walking tours in the garden.

Whilst we welcome all applicants that feel they would meet the criteria above we are particularly interested in meeting interested applicants that are able to converse in Mandarin.  

There are several vacancies in the two posts described below:
1. 3 days per week between the hours of 8.00am and 6.00pm - Monday to Sunday

Volunteer Co-ordinator

A voluntary position has been newly created for a Volunteer Co-ordinator with an interest in historic houses to assist in ensuring the efficiency of the visitor welcome volunteer team.

Our volunteers and visitor welcome team are the key to the customer experience, providing exceptional customer service to every visitor and going the extra mile to ensure our high standards are withheld at all times.

As the main point of contact for the volunteer team, you will make sure that all areas of the visitor experience are covered, including creating daily rotas, monitoring volunteer levels for the coming month and being a point of contact for information to supervisors. You must be able to proactively approach, talk and provide a warm and friendly welcome to all visitors to Chatsworth House, Garden and Farmyard as well as dealing with any customer queries that may arise. 

A friendly, outgoing personality is needed, along with a flexible approach to work as part of a team. You must be customer focused and demonstrate excellent organisational skills. IT skills are an advantage as well as an awareness of Health and Safety procedures.

One to two set days per week are required to be shared by up to four successful applicants (by agreement) 10am-5pm, Monday to Sunday inclusive.

Alongside the chance to develop new skills, make new friends and gain experience for your C.V, Chatsworth volunteers are also entitled to an estate pass and reasonable travel expenses are reimbursed.

As General Manager you will oversee the day to day running of the hotel and spa and lead a diverse team of department managers in the delivery of first class service as well as financial objectives.

It is essential that you have previously held a General Manager position in a similar establishment.  You will have a strong understanding of accounts, sales, marketing and HR principles.
