Private Head Housekeeper
The Duke & Duchess of Devonshire’s Private Household 

A first rate experienced housekeeper is required to manage the private apartments at Chatsworth.

The Private Head Housekeeper will take responsibility for all domestic arrangements within the private household including; managing the domestic teams, organising rotas, arranging cleaning and attending to laundry and repairs. 

This is an extremely varied and interesting role and applicants must be calm, efficient organisers, extremely experienced in all aspects of housekeeping. This includes being competent in handling antiques and precious objects and understanding the correct methods of caring for couture clothing. Previous experience in the management of people and rotas is also essential.  

This is a very busy household, doing a great deal of entertaining on both a formal and informal basis and therefore there is a need to be adaptable, reacting as appropriate to the situation.  Complete confidentiality and attention to detail is a prerequisite, as is a sense of humour. 

The role is 5 days per week, including split shifts and weekends.   Flexibility in hours of work will be required.  An excellent package is available, including independent accommodation in a local cottage.

Chef de Partie
Excellent hours of work 

An opportunity has arisen for a Chef de Partie to join our catering team at Chatsworth on a temporary 6 month contract. 

As part of the team you will work with the senior chefs to help with the development and training of junior members of the kitchen staff. You will also assist with the creation of new dishes and menus, using seasonal, fresh produce from local suppliers wherever possible.

You should be able to demonstrate a genuine desire to deliver food of the highest quality in all sections of the business. You will have experienced time spent as section leader and will also be keen to assist in maintaining our exemplary health & safety and hygiene practices. 

This is a full time, temporary position working 40 hours per week. Flexibility will be essential to meet the needs of the business; however, the majority of the work will be 9.00am-5.30pm.

Commis Chef 
Excellent hours of work

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a full-time Commis Chef within our catering team at Chatsworth. 

This role provides the opportunity for you to gain experience in both the production of homemade food for our day visitors, and creative dishes for our fine dining customers within the rapidly expanding wedding and events business. 

The role also offers the opportunity for significant personal development; assisting in and contributing to the delivery of food of the highest standard in all sections of the business.

Hours of work are 40 hours per week; working 5 days out of 7 on a rota basis and including weekends. Flexibility will be essential to meet the needs of the business; however, the majority of the work will be between 9.00am-5.30pm.

Full-time Bakery Assistant 

A bakery assistant is sought to join the catering bakery team on a full-time, temporary basis until January 2017.

As bakery assistant you will primarily be based in the kitchen bakery and your duties will include assisting in the preparation and production of bakery products for the Carriage House Restaurant and Cavendish Rooms Restaurant.    You will also be required to help with the monthly stock counts for the bakery and the recording and monitoring of all wastage. 

The successful candidate should be able to work well under pressure and assist in the delivery of bakery products to a high standard; ensuring a clean and tidy kitchen at all times.  Previous bakery experience is preferred but training will be provided. 

Hours of work total 40 per week, from 9.00am to 5.30pm on a Friday to Tuesday.

Bakery products display assistant
Part-time 24 hours per week 

An interesting post is available for a part time assistant to support our bakery team on a temporary basis until January 2017.

You will slice and present cakes and other bakery products made by our bakers; maintaining the excellent display of products in the carriage house restaurant and supply of cakes for our prestigious afternoon teas within the Cavendish restaurant.   

First-rate food presentation skills and knowledge of food safety is vital for this position – bakery experience is not required as you are not required to bake.  You should, however, be able to work well under pressure and assist in the delivery of food to a high standard; ensuring a clean and tidy kitchen and front of house area at all times.

Hours of work total 24 per week, from 9.00am to 5.30pm on a Monday, Tuesday and Saturday.

Part-time Customer Service Assistants

Several part-time opportunities are available based within the Stables at Chatsworth; working in the prestigious Cavendish Rooms Restaurant or the self-service Carriage House Restaurant until early January 2017. 

Your duties will include: clearing tables, serving customers, working on the till, serving hot drinks, serving hot food and keeping the restaurant clean and tidy. When working in the Cavendish Rooms Restaurant, you will also greet customers and provide full table service. 
 
Previous experience in a restaurant environment is not essential as full training will be provided. However, you must be friendly, happy to work in a team and keen to provide all our customers with excellent levels of customer service.

Full-time Kitchen Porter
Catering department 

Opportunities are available for kitchen porters to join the friendly catering team at Chatsworth; working 40 hours per week from 9.30am to 6.00pm, 5 days out of 7 on a rota basis. 

You will ensure that a clean, hygienic environment is maintained in the kitchen by cleaning surfaces and maintaining order. You will also provide an adequate supply of clean pans, crockery and cutlery. Flexibility is essential in this role and you should be willing to help out in other areas of the catering department including assisting the chefs with basic food preparation.

You should be able to work quickly and efficiently and be self-motivated, with the ability to work well under pressure.

Ideally, you will have a food hygiene certificate with previous experience of working in a busy restaurant kitchen; however this is not essential as full training can be provided.  

This is a temporary, seasonal position ending early January 2017.

Part-time Positions 
Restaurant Supervisor and Customer Service Assistants

Exciting opportunities are available within our new restaurant on a permanent basis, working on a Saturday and Sunday as detailed below:

  • Role 1 – Restaurant Supervisor, working 15 hours per week from 9.30am to 5.30pm 
  • Role 2 – Customer Service Assistants, working either 12 or 15 hours per week, from 9.30am to 5.30pm or from 11am to 5.30pm 

The equestrian themed restaurant is a new addition to our catering department, open every weekend throughout the year serving luxurious afternoon teas from noon until 4pm.  The restaurant will consist of 14 tables, seating for between two and four per table.

Duties will include; greeting customers, providing full table service, working on the till and serving afternoon teas.   The restaurant supervisor will be responsible for ensuring smooth operation of the restaurant, supervising a small team and guaranteeing customer satisfaction. 

If you are interested in the restaurant supervisor position, you will ideally have previous experience supervising a team in a similar restaurant environment.   Otherwise, all applicants should be friendly, cheerful and enjoy working as part of a small team; taking pride in ensuring excellent customer service.

Part-time Cleaning Operatives
Farmyard & Adventure Playground

Several opportunities for part-time cleaning operatives have arisen in the Farmyard and Adventure Playground.  The posts are permanent, working throughout the season from late March to early January each year.  

You will ensure the Farmyard and Adventure Playground is kept to a high standard, raking and sweeping paths and yards, litter picking and emptying bins and cleaning public and staff toilets.  You will also support the department by helping with other duties.

You should be able to work both in a team and on your own initiative, making sure the Farmyard and Adventure Playground facilities reflect the Chatsworth quality. It is essential that you are reliable and ready to work flexibly for the smooth running of the business. Previous experience of cleaning is not required but would be beneficial.

Varied days and hours of work are available:  working mornings from 7am-10am or afternoons from 4.30pm-7.30pm for from one to seven days each week - Monday to Sunday.   Please clearly state in your application your preferred days and hours of work.

Farmyard & Adventure Playground Assistants

Opportunities have arisen within the popular Farmyard and Adventure Playground at Chatsworth as shown below:

Full-time - from 8.00am to 5.30pm, working 4 days on followed by 2 days off throughout the season.
or
17 hours per week from 8.00am to 5.30pm working every Saturday and Sunday throughout the season.

The posts are seasonal, working from mid-March until early January 2017, when the farmyard & adventure playground closes for maintenance each year.  

Your duties will be varied and include: regularly patrolling the adventure playground, communicating with children and parents and being mindful of safety issues; assisting with the general care and grooming of the animals and supervising animal handling. 

You should be friendly, approachable and reliable, with good communication skills; able to deliver interesting demonstrations and talks to groups of people and school children on educational visits; happy working within a small team, and as duties vary across the site, you should be prepared to be flexible. 

Whilst previous experience is not essential, you must be comfortable working outside with large and small animals and children.

You must have a good awareness of health and safety practices. A current first aid certificate is desirable but not essential as training can be given. This position is subject to a DBS check.

Guides 
Part-time 14 hours per week

Several openings are available for enthusiastic and customer focused individuals to join our Chatsworth guiding team on a seasonal permanent basis, working from late March to early January each year. 

As a Guide your duties will include engaging with the public from key positions on the visitor route whilst ensuring the security of the house and collections.   Additionally, in time and with training, you will have the opportunity to deliver short talks and tours both in the house and garden on a regular basis. 

The successful applicant will have a passion for history and possess excellent communication skills, able to provide a warm greeting to our visitors whilst presenting an exciting introduction into the wonders of Chatsworth. 

We welcome all applicants that feel they would meet the criteria above; we also have opportunities for applicants that are able to converse in Mandarin.  

Hours of work total 14 per week, working three days out of seven on a rota basis between the hours of 8.00am and 6.00pm.

Casual Switchboard Operators 
Internal applicants only 

Positions are available for casual switchboard operators on an ad hoc, as and when required basis. 

Our switchboard operators are often the first point of contact for our visitor and it is absolutely key that you are able to provide exceptional standards of customer care for each and every enquiry. Calls can be many and varied and you can expect to speak to visitors, contractors and members of staff on a daily basis.

Your duties will include; directing and answering telephone enquiries, managing email correspondence and assisting the membership and bookings team with general admin duties. 

The successful applicant will be an affective administrator, able to manage email correspondence, produce Microsoft word documents and manage databases.   

Applicants should have a proven history of delivering excellent customer service and will be pleasant, professional and organized and have the ability to work well in a busy environment.  Some previous experience of telephone work is preferable. 

Hours of work are generally between 9.00am and 5.00pm; however flexibility is essential with regards to both days and hours of work.
