Head Housekeeper

The Duke & Duchess of Devonshire’s Private Household 

A first rate experienced housekeeper is required to manage the private apartments at Chatsworth.

This is an extremely varied and interesting role and applicants must be calm, efficient organisers, extremely experienced in all aspects of housekeeping. Complete confidentiality and attention to detail is a prerequisite, as is a sense of humour. 

The Head Housekeeper will report to the Private Household Manager, taking responsibility for all domestic arrangements within the private household including: managing the domestic teams, arranging cleaning and duty rotas and attending to laundry and repairs.

The Head housekeeper must be an experienced manager of people and rotas, competent in handling antiques and precious objects and understand the correct methods of caring for couture clothing. 

This is a very busy household, doing a great deal of entertaining on both a formal and informal basis and therefore there is a need to be adaptable, reacting as appropriate to the situation.  

The role is 5 days per week, including split shifts and weekends.   Flexibility in hours of work will be required.  An excellent package is available, including independent accommodation.

Chef de Partie

An exciting new position has arisen within our catering department for a Chef de Partie. You will be able to demonstrate the ability and genuine desire to provide an excellent standard of food at all times for our visitors, from our daytime customers wanting good quality homemade fare, to our fine dining customers attending day or evening events and weddings. 

As part of the kitchen team you will be creating new dishes and menus using seasonal, fresh produce from local suppliers wherever possible. 

You will have experienced time spent as section leader, assisting in the training and development of junior staff and be keen to assist in maintaining our exemplary health & safety and hygiene practices. 

This is a full time position working 40 hours per week. Flexibility will be essential to meet the needs of the business; however, the majority of the work will be 9.00am-5.30pm.

Chatsworth Farm Shop

Several Part Time Customer Service Posts are available as outlined below: 

  • 4 permanent employees working from 8 to 16 hours per week (1 or 2 days) on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

  • Christmas period employees - October to early January  - working 1 to 5 days per week including one weekend day.
  • Casual work to suit you.

The Chatsworth Farm Shop has several openings available, as described above, working in all customer service areas of the farm shop including the delicatessen, tills, fish counter, butchery and restaurant.

Previous experience is not essential as we will provide full training.  However, you should be keen to assist Chatsworth in maintaining the exceptional levels of customer service that make us proud, be friendly, welcoming and enjoy working as part of a committed team.

Switchboard Operator

Part Time 14.5 hours (2 days) per week 

The switchboard operator is often the first point of contact by our visitor and it is absolutely key that you are able to provide exceptional standards of customer care for each and every enquiry – and these can be many and varied in a day.

You should have some previous experience of telephone work with a proven history of delivering excellent customer service. You must be pleasant, professional and organised and have the ability to work in a busy environment. 

You should been an effective administrator, able to manage email correspondence, produce Microsoft word documents and manage databases. You must also be reliable, trustworthy and consistently achieve high standards.  A DBS check will be required.  

This is a part time position working 2 days on a rota covering 7 days per week, between the hours of 9.00am and 5.00pm, 365 days a year (with extra hours to cover holiday and busy periods expected as standard within reasonable limits).

Visitor Welcome Assistants

Part Time & Casual Positions as outlined below: 

  • Christmas period employees - October to early January  - working a minimum of 12 hours per week over three days out of seven on a rota basis. Flexibility will be essential to meet the needs of the business.  
  • Casual work to suit you.

Enthusiastic, cheerful individuals with excellent customer service skills are sought to fill interesting roles at front of house positions within the house, garden, farmyard and car park admission points. 

You will provide a positive and friendly welcome to visitors to Chatsworth, whilst actively promoting the sale of tickets, guide books, audios, and tours. An important part of your duties will be to maintain constant vigilance and awareness in order to provide safety and security to the house, garden, their contents and the people within them. 

You should have previous experience of cash handling and till work. You will have an excellent understanding of health and safety and be able to think and act clearly and logically in the event of an emergency. A driving license is desirable but not essential. Above all you should have a passion for delivering world class customer service to engage our visitors and enhance their learning experience. The successful applicant must be able to work evenings and weekends as part of the role. They must also be comfortable working outdoors during the winter period.

Mini Bus Relief Driver

Pilsley School 

Pilsley school will have two school mini buses from the beginning of the 2014 term in September and we are interested to hear from anyone willing to act as relief driver to carry out the Pilsley school bus run at the start and end of the school day, covering for sickness, holidays or when special events take place at the school requiring additional travel. 

When providing cover, you will pick up at several locations in Pilsley, Baslow, Edensor and Beeley during term time, safely delivering the children to school for 8.50am and doing the return run at the end of the day, collecting at the school at 3.00pm onwards.  The runs take approximately 2 hours in total - 1 hour at each end of the day, 10 hours per week.  You may also be required to arrange the regular cleaning, maintenance tasks, annual servicing and MOT checks and ensure the mini bus is filled with fuel.

The successful candidate must have a full clean driving licence and be willing to undergo a DBS check.

Visitor Welcome Volunteers

Opportunities are available for enthusiastic, out-going individuals to join our friendly volunteer team here at Chatsworth.

Our volunteers work alongside the Visitor Welcome Team and are key to the customer experience, providing a warm welcome and exceptional customer service to every visitor. 

This is an outdoor, visitor facing role that is ideal for individuals who are reliable, resilient and like to be kept busy. Within your role, you will be responsible for driving access buggies, delivering outstanding customer service and engaging with visitors to provide information about Chatsworth House. 

Working as part of a team is key in this role. We are looking for flexible individuals who enjoy communicating and interacting with the public. Candidates speaking a second language would be at a distinct advantage. 

Alongside the chance to develop new skills, make new friends and gain experience for your C.V, Chatsworth volunteers are also entitled to an estate pass and reasonable travel expenses are reimbursed. 

Ideally volunteers should commit to a minimum of one day a week. However, we can accommodate other requests if required.

The Cavendish Hotel, Baslow

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Chef de Partie to join our highly motivated team. You will already have Chef de Partie experience working in a rosette establishment, be dedicated to your profession and have ambition  to assist maintaining our existing 2 rosette standards. You must demonstrate a flair for cooking, with a modern approach and have excellent communication skills.
