Full Time Housekeeper’s Assistant
The Duke & Duchess of Devonshire’s Private Household

An interesting opportunity has arisen for a full time housekeeper to join the existing small housekeeping team caring for the private apartments at Chatsworth, deputising for the Private Head Housekeeper on occasion. 

Our housekeepers undertake general cleaning duties, including the handling of antiques and precious objects.  Applicants should have some housekeeping experience but need not have experience of handling precious objects as full training will be provided, however, you must be comfortable handling these items. 

This is a very busy household, doing a great deal of entertaining on both a formal and informal basis and you will be a part of the team providing a warm welcome for the Duke and Duchess’ guests.

Complete confidentiality and attention to detail is a prerequisite, as is a sense of humour.

The role is 5 days per week, including some split shifts and some weekends. Flexibility in hours of work will be required. A DBS check will be required.

Commercial Finance Manager
Devonshire Group

The Devonshire group is the working name of the trusts, businesses and charities connected to the Duke of Devonshire, including Chatsworth and the estates in Yorkshire and Sussex.

A pro-active, commercially astute, finance manager is sought to join the finance team. The role is based at Chatsworth and reports to the Chief Financial Officer. The role will provide financial support across the group businesses as required including visitor attractions, hotels, catering, retail and property.

You will work closely with all heads of department and play a pivotal role in driving the organisation forward. The role promises to provide variety and significant challenges but will also be rewarding in equal measure.

Previous experience of commercial management, process improvement, business and finance/information systems is essential. This is a full time position requiring some flexibility in working hours. The successful applicant is likely to be a qualified Accountant or at a finalist level of one of the recognised accountancy bodies.

Pool Plant Supervisor

 A temporary Pool Plant Supervisor position has arisen for an individual to join our Health and Fitness team at Chatsworth on a fixed term six month contract. The Chatsworth Health Club includes a gymnasium, swimming pool and tennis court, and offers exclusive facilities to its members.

Duties include testing of the pool water to ensure safety of bathers, management of the plant room which includes filling the day tank and daily filtration operations, brushing, and vacuuming the pool, cleaning the tiles, backwashing and cleaning of our new poolside floor in addition to general maintenance duties.

A CIMSPA National Pool Plant Operators certificate would be an advantage but is not essential. However, the successful applicant must have previous experience with pool plant operations. Hours offered will be 12 per week and can be flexible to meet the needs of the successful applicant, however, you must be adaptable and ready to work flexibly to ensure smooth running of the business.

HR System Administrator

An interesting and varied full time position has arisen for an experienced database administrator to assist in two key areas within the Human Resources function.   

The first area is the management of the human resources and payroll database where you will take steps to ensure that you are totally familiar with the database, able to provide a continuous maintenance and improvement process.  

Working closely with the HR manager, you will be part of the project team, creating computer based and manual process improvement across the Devonshire Group.  Your part in this project will be to support departments, provide training and assist them to get the best value from the database.

You will also produce reports for the Head of Group HR and other senior managers.  

Secondly - but not less importantly, you will work alongside our busy HR and Payroll teams, assisting with general HR and administration, including the processing of new starters and related documentation, assisting with general HR processes and helping with social events organized by HR.  You will also assist with the processing of payroll on a monthly basis.  

A good working knowledge of databases is essential; it would be helpful if this was HR and Payroll related but this is not essential.  An HR and/or Payroll background would be beneficial.  You should be a competent user of the Microsoft office suite including word, and excel.

HR Administrator (One Year Fixed term)

An opportunity has arisen for an experienced HR administrator to join the busy HR team at Chatsworth in an interesting and diverse role.  

Working within the small HR team, you will assist with the production of contracts and other documents for new starters, seeking references and DBS checks and producing staff cards.  You will also deal with leavers and general HR queries and processes as they arise, including assisting with any disciplinary or grievance cases.  

You should have an excellent grasp of grammar; report and letter construction, able to produce clear and concise template documents for use by the Devonshire Group.   

You will work directly with the Head of Group HR, assisting in the arranging of events and social activities, often for large numbers of people, for which you must be extremely organized.  You will also provide some secretarial services.  

This is a one year fixed term full time post (part time may be considered).  

A background in HR would be an advantage and would be preferred but is not essential.  You must be able to demonstrate the ability to write professionally and concisely and possess good organizational abilities. You should be a competent user of the Microsoft office suite including word, excel and power point.

Security Officer

An interesting position has arisen for the post of Security Officer; the successful applicant will provide an efficient service and warm welcome to a wide range of people including VIP’s, visitors, staff and the emergency services. 

Flexibility will be a key element of this role and all applicants must possess excellent communication and customer care skills without compromising security; be able to work in a calm and competent manner both alone and as part of a team; have previous experience of working with computers; maintain vigilant observations; monitor and respond quickly and appropriately to intruder  alarm, fire alarm and local monitoring systems and CCTV; carry out security patrols, both internal, external and mobile; operate control room equipment and maintain routine security records. 

The post operates on a 12 hour, 7 days a week shift rota only. Previous experience in a similar role would be advantageous.  Applicants must be prepared to undergo a DBS check and hold a driving licence. Previous applicants need not apply.

Catering Assistant

Cavendish Club

An opportunity has arisen for a Catering Assistant to join us on a permanent basis at our Cavendish Club which is a private friendly club on the Chatsworth Estate serving drinks and food to employees, tenants and members of the Chatsworth sports club.

Duties include assisting customers, resolving enquiries and serving quickly and efficiently. You will help in the smooth operation of the Club supporting the bar, front of house and kitchen areas and will be able to act in a professional manner at all times during a busy service, working effectively as part of a team.

Previous experience is not essential as full training will be provided, however, the successful applicants must be able to demonstrate the excellent level of customer service expected at Chatsworth. Hours offered will be 26 per week, working Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays usually between the hours of 5pm to 11.30pm.

Applicants must be aged 18 or over as you will be required to serve alcohol.

Warehouse Assistant

Casual work of an ad hoc nature is available at the Chatsworth Warehouses based at Calton Lees and Barbrook from 1st December 2014 until 4th January 2015.

The successful applicant will be numerate and organized, able to deal with delivery notes, checking in and monitoring of stock and the transfer of stock to the retail outlets. A driving license and previous experience in a warehouse environment is desirable but not essential as full training will be given. Given the nature of the role the work can be physically demanding. 

Applicants should be able to work well within a team and form good working relationships with suppliers and businesses, providing excellent customer service at all times.

Working hours are between 6.00am and 3.00pm, however, the position will require flexible working in order to meet the needs of the business which includes some weekend or evening work.

This position is open to existing Chatsworth staff only.

Bakery Assistant

Farm Shop Bakery

A fixed term position is available within the Farm Shop Bakery team from 1st December 2014 until January 2015. 

The successful candidate will be working in a busy and varied environment helping to produce breads, pastries and cakes, maintaining current high standards and the smooth operation of the department. Duties will include all aspects of a busy bakery, particularly weighing ingredients, packing and labelling breads and cakes, stock rotation, pot washing and some cleaning. Basic bakery skills would be desirable but are not essential as training will be given.

Hours of work are usually 32 hours per week on a Tuesday, Wednesday Friday and Sunday between the hours of 6.00am and 4.30pm, however, there will be some flexible working required to meet the demands of the business.

Mini Bus Relief Driver

Pilsley School 

Pilsley school will have two school mini buses from the beginning of the 2014 term in September and we are interested to hear from anyone willing to act as relief driver to carry out the Pilsley school bus run at the start and end of the school day, covering for sickness, holidays or when special events take place at the school requiring additional travel. 

When providing cover, you will pick up at several locations in Pilsley, Baslow, Edensor and Beeley during term time, safely delivering the children to school for 8.50am and doing the return run at the end of the day, collecting at the school at 3.00pm onwards.  The runs take approximately 2 hours in total - 1 hour at each end of the day, 10 hours per week.  You may also be required to arrange the regular cleaning, maintenance tasks, annual servicing and MOT checks and ensure the mini bus is filled with fuel.

The successful candidate must have a full clean driving licence and be willing to undergo a DBS check.  Applicants must be over 25 for insurance purposes.

Visitor Welcome Volunteers

Opportunities are available for enthusiastic, out-going individuals to join our friendly volunteer team here at Chatsworth.

Our volunteers work alongside the Visitor Welcome Team and are key to the customer experience, providing a warm welcome and exceptional customer service to every visitor. 

This is an outdoor, visitor facing role that is ideal for individuals who are reliable, resilient and like to be kept busy. Within your role, you will be responsible for driving access buggies, delivering outstanding customer service and engaging with visitors to provide information about Chatsworth House. 

Working as part of a team is key in this role. We are looking for flexible individuals who enjoy communicating and interacting with the public. Candidates speaking a second language would be at a distinct advantage. 

Alongside the chance to develop new skills, make new friends and gain experience for your C.V, Chatsworth volunteers are also entitled to an estate pass and reasonable travel expenses are reimbursed. 

Ideally volunteers should commit to a minimum of one day a week. However, we can accommodate other requests if required.
