Head Housekeeper

The Duke & Duchess of Devonshire’s Private Household 

A first rate experienced housekeeper is required to manage the private apartments at Chatsworth.

This is an extremely varied and interesting role and applicants must be calm, efficient organisers, extremely experienced in all aspects of housekeeping. Complete confidentiality and attention to detail is a prerequisite, as is a sense of humour. 

The Head Housekeeper will report to the Private Household Manager, taking responsibility for all domestic arrangements within the private household including: managing the domestic teams, arranging cleaning and duty rotas and attending to laundry and repairs.

The Head housekeeper must be an experienced manager of people and rotas, competent in handling antiques and precious objects and understand the correct methods of caring for couture clothing. 

This is a very busy household, doing a great deal of entertaining on both a formal and informal basis and therefore there is a need to be adaptable, reacting as appropriate to the situation.  

The role is 5 days per week, including split shifts and weekends.   Flexibility in hours of work will be required.  An excellent package is available, including independent accommodation.

Chef de Partie

An exciting new position has arisen within our catering department for a Chef de Partie. You will be able to demonstrate the ability and genuine desire to provide an excellent standard of food at all times for our visitors, from our daytime customers wanting good quality homemade fare, to our fine dining customers attending day or evening events and weddings. 

As part of the kitchen team you will be creating new dishes and menus using seasonal, fresh produce from local suppliers wherever possible. 

You will have experienced time spent as section leader, assisting in the training and development of junior staff and be keen to assist in maintaining our exemplary health & safety and hygiene practices. 

This is a full time position working 40 hours per week. Flexibility will be essential to meet the needs of the business; however, the majority of the work will be 9.00am-5.30pm.

Apprentice Chef

Devonshire Group IT Technician

Working within the IT department across the Devonshire Group, primarily working from the Derbyshire Estate. The successful applicant will play an active role in the day to day work of the IT helpdesk, liaising with IT suppliers, assisting with the development of IT processes, being IT lead on some business applications. 

The successful applicant for this exciting role will be able to demonstrate:

  • A good record of providing a high level of customer service, working in a fast moving demanding area. 
  • Excellent problem solving skills.
  • Proven knowledge of various Server and PC operating systems. 
  • Proven ability to quickly acquire and apply new skills in the use of IT hardware and software.
  • Proven experience of supporting PCs, EPOS, payment systems and networks.

Bakery Supervisor

Chatsworth Farm shop

An exciting opportunity for an experienced and innovative bakery supervisor has arisen at Chatsworth farm shop. 

You must able to produce a full range of breads, cakes and pastries of a consistently high standard and lead on innovative product development, maintaining Chatsworth farm shop’s position at the leading edge of local quality producers.  You will manage a small busy department, training and developing our talented team to help in your goal.

Kitchen Porters

An opening has become available for two kitchen porters to join our busy catering department until Christmas 2014. The role is a full time seasonal position working mid-March to December working 40 hours per week, Monday to Sunday including some weekends.  

Your duties will be to provide a clean, hygienic environment in the kitchen and ensure the provision of an adequate supply of clean pans, crockery and cutlery. You will also assist the chefs with basic food preparation. You should also be flexible and willing to help out in other areas of the catering department,  

You should be able to work quickly and efficiently and be self-motivated, with the ability to work well under pressure.  

Ideally, you will have a food hygiene certificate with previous experience of working in a busy restaurant kitchen and an understanding of food safety and health and safety guidelines, however this is not essential as full training can be provided.

Mini Bus Drivers

Pilsley School

Two drivers required 5 days per week term time onlyand one relief driver Pilsley school will have two school mini buses from the beginning of the 2014 term in September and therefore an opportunity has arisen for two friendly people to carry out the Pilsley school bus run at the start and end of the school day.

You will pick up at several locations in Pilsley, Baslow, Edensor and Beeley, safely delivering the children to school for 8.50am and doing the return run at the end of the day, collecting at the school at 3.00pm onwards.  

The runs take approximately 2 hours in total - 1 hour at each end of the day, 10 hours per week.  

We would also be interested to hear from anyone willing to act as relief driver, covering for sickness, holidays or when special events take place at the school requiring additional travel. 

This is a term time vacancy only and the successful candidates must have a full clean driving licence and be willing to undergo a DBS check.   You will also be required to arrange the regular cleaning, maintenance tasks, annual servicing and MOT checks and ensure the mini bus is filled with fuel. For insurance purposes applicants must be over 25 years of age.

Visitor Welcome Assistants

Part Time – 12 hours per week

Enthusiastic, cheerful individuals with excellent customer service skills are sought to fill interesting roles at front of house positions within the house, garden, farmyard and car park admission points.  

You will provide a positive and friendly welcome to visitors to Chatsworth, whilst actively promoting the sale of tickets, guide books, audios, and tours. An important part of your duties will be to maintain constant vigilance and awareness in order to provide safety and security to the house, garden, their contents and the people within them.  

You should have previous experience of cash handling and till work. You will have an excellent understanding of health and safety and be able to think and act clearly and logically in the event of an emergency. A driving license is desirable but not essential. Above all you should have a passion for delivering world class customer service to engage our visitors and enhance their learning experience.  

The position is a minimum of 12 hours per week, working three days out of seven on a rota basis. Flexibility will be essential to meet the needs of the business.  These positions are temporary for approximately 5 months - ending in December 14 or January 2015.

Collections Technician

(37.5 hrs per week, permanent)  

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and motivated technician with excellent practical skills and a proven track record in exhibition installation and collections care to join the Collections team in this key role.  

The post holder will undertake the safe handling, movement and storage of the collection and assist the Collections Steward with the day-to-day care and preventive conservation of the Devonshire Collection at Chatsworth.  

During the closed season they will play a key part in the annual deep clean of show rooms on the visitor route. Throughout the year we also undertake an annual outdoor sculpture cleaning programme and routine tasks such as clock winding and all aspects of environmental monitoring.  

Chatsworth offers a full and diverse programme of temporary exhibitions working with nationally and internationally recognised contemporary artists as well as displaying the historically important Devonshire Collection.  The post offers an opportunity to develop and enhance technical knowledge and expertise in the installation and de-installation of works of art.  

Applicants should hold a degree in a relevant field or conservation experience and have a minimum of two years’ or equivalent experience of working in an exhibitions, museum or historic house environment. Experience of best practice in the preservation of mixed collections is essential, as is an understanding of environmental monitoring and its practical application within historic buildings.   

The post holder will provide core practical functions for the Department including the preparation and retrieval of objects for researchers. This is a physically demanding role and experience of handling fragile or technically challenging works of art and an ability to work at heights is essential. Candidates should be computer literate and have experience of databases and documenting collections.

Collections Assistant

Part-time (2 days per week), permanent  

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a part-time Collections Assistant to assist the work of the Department, in particular the Curator (Exhibitions and Special Projects) with the delivery of temporary exhibitions and displays.  

The post holder will support the delivery of temporary exhibitions and provide general administrative support across the team on other agreed projects.  Such projects will include the documentation of the collections on the KE Software EMU database.      

The successful candidate will have experience of working to tight deadlines, excellent organisational and administrative skills, the ability to prioritise and proven people skills. A thorough working knowledge of Microsoft Office software is essential. Experience of using databases, ideally a collections management system, and the ability to interpret data is desirable.  

Applicants should hold a degree in a relevant field and have previous experience of working in an exhibitions, museum or historic house environment, either paid or voluntary, and have object handling experience. An interest in contemporary art as well as historic collections, and an understanding of exhibition practice would be advantageous. This role provides an excellent opportunity for those wishing to develop a career in the field of collections management and particularly exhibitions administration.

Gardener

A rare opportunity has arisen for a skilled gardener to join the gardening team at Chatsworth, based primarily in the famous pleasure gardens.  

You will work as part of the Borders Team, maintaining the pleasure gardens to a suitably high standard; your duties will include border maintenance and using machinery for the maintenance of hedging and lawns.   

You should be strongly committed to working and supporting a team but also able to work on your own initiative when required. You will be able to demonstrate an awareness of all issues affecting personal safety and the safety of others, including volunteers.  

Applicants should hold at least a Level 2 qualification in horticulture or related subject; have a minimum of one year horticultural experience or equivalent with good technical knowledge of plants, tools, horticultural processes and strong plant identification skills.  

Experience in the use of petrol and electric hedge-cutters and a PA1/PA6 spraying certificate would be an advantage.  

This is a permanent position working 40 hours per week between 8.00am and 4.30pm usually Monday to Friday. However the post requires flexibility and may include weekend working.

Retail Administrator

An exciting opportunity for a full time Administrator has arisen at Chatsworth to support the retail department on a fixed term contract until 31 March 2015.  

As retail administrator, you will complete the daily takings procedure across the retail department ensuring that a full check of each till balance takes place and that the banking is prepared for collection on the relevant day. You will also assist with mail orders, deliveries and handle incoming calls maintaining a high standard of service at all times.  

The role will additionally provide support for colleagues in the catering and retail office and you should be prepared to assist in any of the trading outlets - serving customers when required.  

The successful candidate will have strong administrative and customer service skills, along with excellent numeracy, written and verbal communication skills. Intermediate IT skills in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook are essential for the role. Previous experience in banking reconciliations is highly desirable.  

This is a full time role working 40 hours per week Sunday to Thursday between 9.00 and 5.30pm.

Casual Catering Assistants

The Cavendish Club  

Two positions have arisen for casual catering assistants at the Cavendish club which is a private friendly club on the Chatsworth Estate serving drinks and food to employees, tenants and members of the Chatsworth sports clubs.  

You will work as and when required – the shifts offered will be  mainly during the evening or on Wednesday and Friday covering the lunchtime period.  

Applicants should have great people skills and happy to provide the excellent level of customer service expected at Chatsworth. Training will be provided however any previous experience in food handling, till operations and working in a bar will be beneficial.

House Person

(Visitor welcome, traffic management, car parking & facility cleanliness) 

This team are often the first people our visitor meets when visiting Chatsworth and therefore it is essential that team members are enthusiastic in providing first rate customer service and a warm welcome. 

Duties include: greeting customers, assisting with the safe and efficient operation of visitor parking, assisting in maintaining the cleanliness of the car park areas, toilets, collection of litter and general duties required of the house team.

Applicants should have an enthusiastic approach; possess excellent communication skills together with the ability to remain calm under pressure. You should be flexible in your approach to working, willing to help out during busier times.  You will work well within a team and also display the ability to use your own initiative.  A driving license is required for this position. 

This is a seasonal position working March to December. Hours of work will vary -  normally 40 hours per week between the hours of 8.00am and 4.30pm, Monday to Sunday in a rota over 15 days in every 3 week period and will include working every third weekend.

Bakery and Kitchen Assistant

Fixed term until 23.12.14  

An interesting full time position has arisen within Stables at Chatsworth.   

You will slice and present the cakes and other bakery products made by our chefs, maintaining an excellent display of bakery products in the Carriage House Restaurant; also assisting the head chef to prepare a selection of sandwiches, salads and bakery products for our prestigious afternoon tea selection available within the Cavendish Rooms.  

You must be able to work under pressure and deliver food to a high quality, actively maintaining a clean and tidy kitchen and front of house preparation area.     Excellent food presentation skills and knowledge of food safety are vital for this position.  

The role is a full time position working 40 hours per week with start and finish times between 8.00am and 6.00pm. This is a varied role and the successful candidate will usually support the bakery 3 days per week, Sunday to Tuesday, and support the kitchen Friday and Saturday. Casual Visitor Welcome Volunteers

Opportunities are available for enthusiastic, out-going individuals to join our friendly volunteer team over our busy summer season. 

You would work alongside our Visitor Welcome Team where you would be absolute key to the customer experience, providing our visitors with a warm welcome and exceptional customer service for every visitor, every time. 

This is an outdoor visitor facing role, which is ideal for individuals who are reliable, resilient and like to be kept busy. Duties will include driving access buggies, directing visitors and providing information - all this whilst remaining calm and positive.

These positions are required on a casual basis, and flexibility is important. We are looking for people who can do a minimum of 2 days per week, and are particularly available at weekends.  

This is a voluntary post, but it does involve a formal interview process.

Multi skilled and working across all areas of Food and Beverage services, Restaurant Serving Staff are able to work on their own initiative and as part of a busy team.  Interacting with guests is the most important part of your role which involves setting and clearing tables, service preparation, hosting, order taking, food & drink service and general cleaning duties which includes polishing cutlery & crockery.  Most of all, you are well presented and extremely focused on delivering a quality service and product with a smile.  Working hours to suit you and the business, you will have an outgoing character, positive attitude and friendly manner.

Part Time Room Attendant salary up to £6562.40 plus benefits

As a Room Attendant you have a huge impact on the quality of a guests’ experience.  The presentation and standards of cleanliness in a guests’ bedroom and bathroom are central to their enjoyment.  To be successful in this department, you must have a very good eye for detail as the smallest things often make the biggest difference.  Duties not only include cleaning, but also calculating your daily linen usage, reporting any maintenance problems, handling lost property, and most importantly that rooms are ready for guests arrival.
