Kitchen Porter

Fixed term until 4th January 2015

An opening has become available for a full time kitchen porter to join our busy catering department until early January 2014 working 40 hours per week, Friday to Tuesday.

Your duties will be to provide a clean, hygienic environment in the kitchen and ensure the provision of an adequate supply of clean pans, crockery and cutlery. You will also assist the chefs with basic food preparation. 

You should be self-motivated, able to work quickly and efficiently and respond well at very busy times. You should also be flexible and willing to help out in other areas of the catering department.

Ideally, you will have a food hygiene certificate with previous experience of working in a busy restaurant kitchen and an understanding of food safety and health and safety guidelines, however this is not essential as full training can be provided.

Assistant Shepherd

A vacancy has arisen for a shepherd with working dogs to make up a team of two to assist with the management of 2800 ewes.

We offer a competitive salary and a 2 bedroom cottage as the position requires someone to live onsite or in close proximity to the Estate.  The successful applicant may also be required to assist with cattle on the estate from time to time. This is an excellent opportunity for the right person to benefit from the facilities and environment of the Chatsworth Estate.

Customer Service Assistants

Full and part time Christmas posts available starting 27th October or 24th November until 4th January 2015 

Several positions are available for additional staff to assist us over the Christmas period  in the Carriage House Restaurant and The Cavendish Rooms working (2 to 5 days) per week, with the majority of positions requiring at least one weekend day.  

Previous experience is not essential as we will provide full training.  However, applicants must be friendly and welcoming, enjoy working as part of a committed team and keen to assist in maintaining the exceptional levels of customer service that makes a visit to Chatsworth special.

Retail Customer Service Assistants

Christmas Positions

Several part time customer service assistant posts are available during our Christmas period from November to early January; working 1 to 5 days per week in our retail department and food-to-go units, including several short days (11am -3.30pm or 12pm – 4pm). 

Applicants will be required to work in both the food-to-go units, serving hot and cold snacks and drinks and the retails shops which stock an interesting range of quality gifts, prepackaged foods and other quality merchandise. You should be proactive, increasing sales by your excellent customer service standards and product knowledge.

You should be happy to work as part of a team in a busy environment, turning your hand to whatever role is required including sales, stock control, merchandising and cleaning duties.  

Candidates should ideally have experience of delivering excellent customer service and operating a till.

Visitor Welcome Assistants

Part Time & Casual Positions as outlined below: 

  • Christmas period employees - October to early January  - working a minimum of 12 hours per week over three days out of seven on a rota basis. Flexibility will be essential to meet the needs of the business.  
  • Casual work to suit you.

Enthusiastic, cheerful individuals with excellent customer service skills are sought to fill interesting roles at front of house positions within the house, garden, farmyard and car park admission points. 

You will provide a positive and friendly welcome to visitors to Chatsworth, whilst actively promoting the sale of tickets, guide books, audios, and tours. An important part of your duties will be to maintain constant vigilance and awareness in order to provide safety and security to the house, garden, their contents and the people within them. 

You should have previous experience of cash handling and till work. You will have an excellent understanding of health and safety and be able to think and act clearly and logically in the event of an emergency. A driving license is desirable but not essential. Above all you should have a passion for delivering world class customer service to engage our visitors and enhance their learning experience. The successful applicant must be able to work evenings and weekends as part of the role. They must also be comfortable working outdoors during the winter period.

Mini Bus Relief Driver

Pilsley School 

Pilsley school will have two school mini buses from the beginning of the 2014 term in September and we are interested to hear from anyone willing to act as relief driver to carry out the Pilsley school bus run at the start and end of the school day, covering for sickness, holidays or when special events take place at the school requiring additional travel. 

When providing cover, you will pick up at several locations in Pilsley, Baslow, Edensor and Beeley during term time, safely delivering the children to school for 8.50am and doing the return run at the end of the day, collecting at the school at 3.00pm onwards.  The runs take approximately 2 hours in total - 1 hour at each end of the day, 10 hours per week.  You may also be required to arrange the regular cleaning, maintenance tasks, annual servicing and MOT checks and ensure the mini bus is filled with fuel.

The successful candidate must have a full clean driving licence and be willing to undergo a DBS check.  Applicants must be over 25 for insurance purposes.

Visitor Welcome Volunteers

Opportunities are available for enthusiastic, out-going individuals to join our friendly volunteer team here at Chatsworth.

Our volunteers work alongside the Visitor Welcome Team and are key to the customer experience, providing a warm welcome and exceptional customer service to every visitor. 

This is an outdoor, visitor facing role that is ideal for individuals who are reliable, resilient and like to be kept busy. Within your role, you will be responsible for driving access buggies, delivering outstanding customer service and engaging with visitors to provide information about Chatsworth House. 

Working as part of a team is key in this role. We are looking for flexible individuals who enjoy communicating and interacting with the public. Candidates speaking a second language would be at a distinct advantage. 

Alongside the chance to develop new skills, make new friends and gain experience for your C.V, Chatsworth volunteers are also entitled to an estate pass and reasonable travel expenses are reimbursed. 

Ideally volunteers should commit to a minimum of one day a week. However, we can accommodate other requests if required.

The Cavendish Hotel, Baslow

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Chef de Partie to join our highly motivated team. You will already have Chef de Partie experience working in a rosette establishment, be dedicated to your profession and have ambition  to assist maintaining our existing 2 rosette standards. You must demonstrate a flair for cooking, with a modern approach and have excellent communication skills.
