Live in Housekeeper (accommodation for a couple)

The Duke & Duchess of Devonshire’s Private Residence in Yorkshire – The Hall at Bolton Abbey

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced housekeeper to live on site, alone, or with spouse according to circumstances, in a two bedroom apartment next to, but separate from, the main residence of The Hall which is set in the beautiful grounds of Bolton Priory.  

The Housekeeper will report to the Private Head Housekeeper based at Chatsworth and also the agent of the Bolton Abbey estate but be self-managed for the greater part of the year taking responsibility for all domestic arrangements within the Hall including:, cleaning, polishing, attending to laundry and arranging maintenance repairs. The housekeeper must be competent in handling antiques and precious objects. The Housekeeper will also employ temporary assistance for house parties.

Complete confidentiality and attention to detail is a prerequisite, as is a sense of humour. 

The role is 5 days per week, however, flexibility is essential with a requirement to be adaptable, reacting as appropriate to the situation,  including working longer hours and weekends when the owners are in residence.

A DBS check will be required.

Part time
Customer Service Assistants
Cavendish Restaurant

Part time vacancies exist for customer service assistants until early January 2016 within the popular Cavendish Restaurant which provides a broad selection of high quality food for our visitor, ranging from tea and coffee to a three course lunch or a Laurent-Perrier Champagne afternoon tea.

You will work within a friendly team, greeting customers, providing full table service, working on the till and serving hot and cold drinks. Whilst previous experience in a restaurant environment would be beneficial, this is not essential as we will provide  training.

We aim to offer the Chatsworth visitor an exceptional level of customer service and you will assist us in delivering that quality experience. Therefore you should be friendly, cheerful and enjoy working as part of a team, taking pride in delivering great customer service at all times.

Guides

An Opportunity is available for enthusiastic and customer focused individuals to join our Chatsworth guiding team.  This will be on a fixed term basis, working 3 part days each week between the hours of 8.00am and 6.00pm - Monday to Sunday until 6 November 2015 when we start preparing for Christmas at Chatsworth. 

You will engage with the public from key positions on the visitor route whilst ensuring the security of the house and collections. You should have a passion for history and possess excellent communication skills, able to provide a warm greeting to our visitors whilst presenting an exciting introduction into the wonders of Chatsworth; leaving a lasting impression on young and old of the wealth of history and entertainment available to them.

Kitchen Porter

Full Time

An immediate vacancy has arisen for a kitchen porter to provide support for the catering team, producing first class food for the Carriage House and Cavendish Room Restaurants.

You will ensure that a clean, hygienic environment is maintained in the kitchen by cleaning all surfaces and maintaining order. You will also provide an adequate supply of clean pans, crockery and cutlery. However, flexibility is essential in this role and you should be willing to help out in other areas of the catering department including assisting the chefs with basic food preparation.

You should be able to work quickly and efficiently and be self-motivated, with the ability to work well under pressure.

Ideally, you will have a food hygiene certificate with previous experience of working in a busy restaurant kitchen, however this is not essential as full training can be provided. 

This is a full time position ending January 2016, working 40 hours per week from 9.30am to 6.00pm, five days out of seven on a rota basis which includes weekends.

Bakery Assistant

Part time 9am – 5.30pm 4 days

Two part time Bakery Assistants are sought to join the Chatsworth Catering department based in the Stables: post one is a permanent position and post two is a fixed term post ending 6th January 2016.

You will slice and present the cakes and other bakery products made by our bakers, maintaining the excellent display of products in the Carriage House Restaurant. You will also maintain the supply of bakery products for our prestigious afternoon teas available within the Cavendish Rooms.

Experience is not necessary, however, excellent food presentation skills and knowledge of food safety are vital for this position,  you should also be able to work under pressure and deliver food to a high quality; actively maintaining a clean and tidy kitchen and front of house preparation area.

Hours are 9.00am to 5.30pm from Saturday to Tuesday inclusive– totaling 32 hours per week, however, some flexibility will be required to meet the needs of the business.

Warehouse Assistants
Chatsworth Warehouse

Permanent positions are available:
• Position one – preferably working Saturday to Wednesday 40 hours per week but Sunday to Wednesday 32 hours will be considered.
• Position two - working Saturday 8 hours between the hours of 6.00am to 3.00pm.

However, both positions will require flexible working to meet the needs of the business, particularly at busy times of the year.

The successful applicants will be numerate and organized, able to deal with delivery notes, the checking in and monitoring of stock and the transfer of stock to the retail outlets on a daily basis. Given the nature of the work the role is physically demanding. A driving license and previous experience in a warehouse environment is desirable but not essential as full training will be given.

You will be able to work well as part of a team and will understand the importance of the fact you are representing Chatsworth to outside suppliers and businesses.

Estate Farm Shop
Butchery Assistant

A permanent position is available working between 40 and 42.5 hours per week between the hours of 8.00am and 6.30pm, usually on Tuesday to Saturday.

Duties will include the making of our sausages and burgers, introducing seasonal lines, bringing innovation and experience to work as part of our very successful butchery team, developing new and exciting added value products as well as important cleaning duties.  

Experience in handling meat products is desirable but not essential as training will be provided.  Exemplary health, safety and hygiene practices alongside the ability to work under pressure without compromising quality and standards are required.

Estate Farm Shop Cafe
Day time Assistant Chef/Cooks

 An interesting position has arisen for an Assistant Chef/Cook within the popular Estate Farm Shop Café. 

Under the guidance of the Head Chef, you will add value to the work already carried out by our very successful team. Using the first class produce available within the farm shop you will have the opportunity to introduce new seasonal lines, bringing together innovation and experience, providing excellent meals of a consistently high standard.

Full time Education Assistant (One year fixed term),
The Devonshire Educational Trust

An exciting opportunity is available for an Education Assistant with a passion for outdoor education to join the education department at Chatsworth.

Chatsworth currently offers a range of educational activities which showcase the wealth of historic, environmental and artistic learning opportunities on the Estate. This new post will focus on the development and delivery of our expanding Outdoor Education programme but will also include working within the wider Education Team, taking part in a range of educational activities.

Our existing outdoor education programme uses the mature woodland and gardens at Chatsworth to run activities such as Woodland Discovery walks and Den Building sessions. We are keen to expand out outdoor offer and also market to and engage with a wider range of schools, youth and community groups.

It is essential that you are a confident deliverer, have experience of working with a range of ages; have good organisational skills and a proficiency in Microsoft Office and Outlook. Marketing and sales experience to schools and youth groups would be an advantage.

This is a one year fixed term post working a 37.5 hour week, however, flexibility in working hours is very important in this role as weekend working and start and finish times outside normal working hours not unusual.

Casual Customer Service Assistants
Weddings and Events

Chatsworth hosts a variety of functions, ranging from the annual Horse Trials and the Chatsworth Country Fair to high quality weddings and events. Interesting opportunities are now available for enthusiastic, customer focused individuals to assist the team responsible for delivering the food offer at these events.

Chatsworth is known for exceptional standards of customer service and you will help deliver this. Following training, you will be expected to act in a professional manner at all times during a busy service, working effectively as part of a friendly, efficient team.

Your duties will include: greeting, resolving enquiries and serving guests quickly and efficiently. You will help in the smooth operation of events; supporting the bar, front of house and kitchen areas.  You will also assist in setting up the function venue; moving chairs, tables and laying tables – which can be physically demanding. 

Previous functions experience is not essential as full training will be provided, however, the successful applicants must be able to demonstrate a passion for delivering a first class service.

Hours offered will be on a casual basis with the majority of the work at the weekend or evenings with the possibility of late finishes.

Applicants must be aged 18 or over as you will be required to serve alcohol.

The Devonshire Arms, Beeley
