Sustainability best practice
One of the ways we support the communities we engage with is through active participation in, and support of, networks designed to share knowledge and inspire action on sustainability best practice.
Currently we are members of the following networks:
Fit for the Future
Fit for the Future is a solution-based network of over 80 member organisations that want to reduce energy bills and better manage environmental impacts.
Green Tourism Business Scheme
Green Tourism Business Scheme is an internationally respected award scheme for sustainable businesses. Demonstrating the highest standards of sustainability, Chatsworth has been a Gold Award holder since 2013.
Peak District Environmental Quality Mark (EQM)
The Peak District Environmental Quality Mark (EQM) is a place based certification scheme that enables locals businesses to demonstrate how they use and enhance sustainable practices. Chatsworth has proudly held the Peak District Environmental Quality Mark since 2016.
Improving carbon performance
We continue to seek out ways to improve the carbon performance of our tenant properties. For example, we have been helping our tenants get off carbon-intense oil boilers by installing biomass boiler heating systems. So far we have installed 15 of these boilers, saving over 250 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent emissions annually, according to government estimates.
We continue to improve the energy performance of tenanted properties through a range of measures. Dependant on the style of property, this may involve installing double or secondary glazing, thermostatic radiator valves and room thermostats, or insulation in lofts, walls and floors. To date, these improvements have helped 16 properties, which were F or G rated, meet Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) E rating.
We have also added an energy saving additive to all wet central heating systems in our tenant properties. The product, called EndoTherm, can be expected to reduce energy consumption by as much as 15%.
