The archives collection at Chatsworth includes hundreds of maps and plans, not just of Chatsworth but of Cavendish estates across Derbyshire, Yorkshire, Sussex, Somerset, Cumberland, Westmorland, Lincolnshire, Lancashire, London and Ireland. This plan is the earliest detailed plan of Chatsworth in the collections, showing the house and gardens in the early 18th century. Chatsworth House Trust is committed to the conservation and safe keeping of the archives collection. The Chatsworth plan was sent for specialist conservation work in 2012 to ensure its long-term preservation and accessibility to researchers.
