This intricate filigree silver model of a carriage was almost certainly made for William Spencer Cavendish, 6th Duke of Devonshire, but may well have entered the collection previously. In 1828 it was recorded at Devonshire House.

It was fashionable in the 18th and 19th century to collect these miniature silver objects. There are many in the collection including a basket, chairs, spinning wheel and a standing mirror. The carriage is of particular interest because it is an accurate model; if you pull it along the wheels turn and it moves.
