Capture the beauty of figurative sculpture in Chatsworth's Sculpture Gallery through this observational drawing workshop. This gives you exclusive evening access to our historic sculpture collection.
Our experienced tutor will provide an overall structure and focus to the session, helping you to develop your own drawing abilities and interests. You will be guided through initial sketches, measuring techniques, and developing aspects of line and tone using dry media. We will emphasise how to capture the three-dimensional form, using sculptures by Albacini, Canova and Bartolini as our inspiration.
This workshop is open to all abilities. Our tutor will be on hand to help you progress your skills, discuss and review your work as required. You are also welcome to use this session to develop your own practice using the figurative sculptures as your model.
All materials are provided. Due to the historic environment and environmental controls in place, please do not bring any wet materials on the day, although you are welcome to bring your own sketchbook and dry materials (note these materials will be checked for suitability on the day).
Please meet 10 minutes before the start of your session outside the lower garden gates (next to the park takeaway café). A member of staff will escort you to the gallery for the session.
No food or drink (other than water in sealed drinking bottles) are permitted in the Sculpture gallery.
Make a stay of it
With so much to see, do, and explore in the Peak District, it's a shame to only come for the day, so why not stay a little longer? Our country cottages, shepherd's huts, hotels, and inns are the perfect base for exploring all that Chatsworth, Derbyshire, and the Peak District has to offer. Find out more.
