With 10 days until Florabundance opens, preparations are ramping up and we are beginning to get very excited about the inspiration behind this year's festival, Lancelot 'Capability' Brown.
Including British flowers in Florabundance is nothing new as I have worked with and utilised a host of home grown garden materials and gathered flowers and foliage from the Chatsworth Estate throughout tthe past festivals. This year however I wanted to invite some of my wonderful friends from around Derbyshire and Yorkshire to contribute their amazing skills as British flower growers and offer them the amazing opportunity to display their stunning flowers in the Great Dining Room.
The folks from Flowers From the Farm, who are part of a British Flower Cooperative, will display all their wonderful materials to recreate the abundance and romance that we all adore and admire through home grown British flowers. Personally I have always loved working with British flowers as they offer a charm and nostalgia that you cannot find within the mass produced perfectly formed straight stems of imported blooms. I am always totally charmed by the twists and turns within the stems, the bowed head or ruffled petals which make home grown flowers so magical.
Chatsworth in late June will showcase many of my favourite British flowers which include the intoxicatingly fragrant stocks: perfect Peonies, delicate Scabious, musky scented Pinks, romantic Love in a Mist, charming Cornflowers, bold Alliums, stately stems of Foxgloves and more.
