Preparation for the show begins months prior, but driving to London and day of preparation are particularly nerve racking. We carefully pack the fruit, but while driving must make sure to take turns extra slow due to our precious cargo! In the end the hard work is more than worth it.
This year we entered several cultivars of apples, grapes and several types of glasshouse fruits. Two of our popular fruits are Imperial Lemons and Muscat of Alexandria grapes. Imperial Lemons are actually a lemon-grapefruit hybrid, are quite large, but have very little fruit. They make an especially scrumptious marmalade. Our Muscat of Alexandria grapes have been growing in our vinery since the 1920s and are a delicious dessert grape.
Not only is the festival a great way to show off what we have grown, but it's a wonderful chance to network with like-minded people and see amazing produce.
