Still life with Peaches, c. 1890 - 1918 by Pierre-Auguste Renoir
Last week we were delighted to launch the new Art and Archives section on the Chatsworth website. The pages have already proved to be a hit, and we’re so pleased that we can now showcase some of the most exciting pieces in the Devonshire collection online.

The collections at Chatsworth have grown with each generation that has lived here, and include works by some of the most famous and well-loved artists and sculptors of the last four hundred years. The collection continues to grow, with pieces from contemporary artists set alongside works acquired by previous generations and a rich historical archive.

At Chatsworth we care for an incredibly large and varied collection. We want to make sure that all aspects of the collection are represented on our new website pages. The various categories for the Highlights section were divided between the Collections team, each of us writing about the objects that we specialise in and get most excited about. The pieces selected span the whole collection, both traditional and contemporary. They include not only those objects on display in the house, but also items currently in store that we want to share with you. For instance, did you know that in the collection we actually have a painting by Renoir?

We will be adding to the pages as the year goes on. Look out for highlights from the ceramics and furniture collections and more case studies for our Caring for the Collections pages, including our annual clean of the sculpture in the gardens.

We hope you enjoy exploring the collections online, and that it inspires you to come and see some of these wonderful objects here at Chatsworth.
