I have come to the end of my weeks work experience at Chatsworth and am a little tired (mainly due the numerous stairways, long corridors and acres of gardens) but full of new insight into how the estate is run. I spent my first two days in the estate office with the Land agents; seeing how Chatsworth still has such a key role in the local community and the protection of Derbyshire’s beautiful landscape.

I then spent a day with the building department and discovered the sheer scale of maintenance required; from restoring brick work to painting gates which is constant and unrelenting task.

I have spent the last two days at the Chatsworth itself, visiting the attractions including the house, garden and farmyard. In have met lots of lovely people and realized how each individual’s role and hard work are imperative to keeping Chatsworth running smoothly, which as a visitor I never would have realized. No two days seem to be the same here with a huge variety of projects underway as Chatsworth continues to move forward and improve for future generations.
Thank you to everyone for making me so welcome and giving me the privilege of seeing behind the scenes.
