A rare opportunity has arisen for an experienced Executive Head Chef at Chatsworth.

We are known for the quality of our food and service and you will be responsible for enhancing that reputation. Developing a range of constantly evolving, top quality, homemade food for restaurants including: our large self-service Carriage House Restaurant; the à la Carte Cavendish Restaurant; Flying Childers, serving brunch and afternoon tea; and for both large and small scale hospitality events, including weddings, corporate and fine dining.

Managing a team of over twenty people, working in various disciplines including pastry and sandwich production; you will be responsible for the recruitment, management, training and coordination of staff to ensure a successful and efficient operation.

Previous experience of working as a Head Chef or Executive Chef in a large operation is essential, together with a passion for producing food of a first class standard and excellent kitchen management skills. Sound knowledge of HACCP and COSHH regulations is also essential, with the ability to maintain excellent health and safety and hygiene standards.

This is a full time position working 40 hours per week, mainly from 9am to 5.30pm with a weekend off every 4 to 8 weeks and a requirement to work evenings for special events.

HR Graduate Trainee

Full-time Maternity Cover Role

An interesting opportunity has arisen within the HR team at Chatsworth which would suit a recently qualified or part-qualified HR or business graduate looking to begin their HR career.

You will work within a busy HR, training and payroll team of 10 people responsible for 1200 employees. You will be responsible for recruitment and the new starter process, taking part in some interviews, as well as assisting the team with all other HR matters including: contracts, discipline and grievance, occupational health and general staff enquiries. The HR team also organise a large staff party and children’s party each year, employee of the quarter and long service awards.

You should have sound administration experience, with work experience in a HR role being an advantage. Excellent written communication skills are essential.

Hours of work total 35 per week, from 9.00am to 5.00pm on Monday to Friday.

Arts Engagement Officer

The Devonshire Educational Trust at Chatsworth

An exciting opportunity is available for an Arts Engagement Officer to join the education department at Chatsworth. We are looking for an enthusiastic, creative person with a passion for the arts to devise and oversee our new program of engagement with children and young people, and visitors of all ages.

Chatsworth currently offers a range of educational activities which showcase the wealth of historic, environmental and artistic learning opportunities on the estate. This new post will focus on the development and delivery of arts activities linked to our exhibition and events programs. In the autumn this will include working directly with artists on our education sessions presented as part of the Chatsworth Festival ‘Art out Loud’ and also the promotion of the Sotheby’s outdoor sculpture exhibition ‘Beyond Limits’.

You will have a background in teaching or experience of working in a museum, gallery, or heritage setting. You will also have excellent creative skills and the ability to inspire creativity and curiosity about the arts in others. An interest in and experience of working with young people is essential, as are excellent communication skills and the ability to engage positively with a range of people.

This is initially offered as a one year fixed term post that will be working a 37.5 hour week with a salary of £24,000 pa. We are currently seeking funding to secure this post into the future and part of the role will include gathering evidence to support these funding applications.

Office Coordinator

Farmyard & Adventure Playground

A new, interesting position has become available within the Farmyard & Adventure Playground office.

You will play an important role in ensuring that policies, processes and paperwork are implemented in an efficient and organised manner; covering health and safety, human resources, finance and other operational farmyard processes.

You will be the main point of contact in the farmyard for the bookings team to ensure that the farmyard team have all the information needed to deliver specific tours and events to meet the needs of the education and private group visitors.

In addition, you will also be the main point of contact for general enquiries at the farmyard, dealing with telephone, email and letters received to a successful conclusion, including responding to visitor suggestions and complaints.

You will be an experienced administrator, with an understanding of HR, H&S and financial processes in addition to excellent written and verbal communication skills and proficiency in all Microsoft Office applications.

Being organised and methodical in your approach to work, you must also be able to prioritise and manage your own workload whilst working to deadlines. Flexibility with regards to working days and hours is also important.

This is a two year, fixed-term contract working 34 hours per week, between the hours of 8.00am and 5.30pm on a flexible shift pattern working 4 days out of 7, which includes weekends.

Retail Buying Administrator

20 hours per week

The Chatsworth buying team play a critical role in buying and creating compelling new products for our visitors to purchase from our shops. A new part-time, permanent opportunity has arisen within this small and friendly team.

You will provide administration support for the team of buyers and your role will include; producing reports, database management, processing purchase orders, acting as a point of contact for the department, general filing and helping with any enquiries.

You should be an excellent administrator, with good numeracy skills and able to multi-task and prioritise your workload in an organised and efficient manner. Working with initiative, attention to detail and good interpersonal skills are also important.

You must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications including; Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint and Word. It would be beneficial if you had experience of using a Eureka buying system, however full training will be provided.

Hours of work total 20 per week and flexibility is available with regards the specific working pattern; either 5 part-days or 3 full-days on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Please state your preferred working pattern on your application.

Assistant Supervisor

Flying Childers Restaurant

A seasonal permanent opportunity is available for a customer focused individual to help supervise the equestrian themed restaurant which offers a Wedgwood afternoon tea and brunch at Chatsworth.

You will help ensure the smooth operation of the restaurant, assisting with the supervision of a small team and guaranteeing customer satisfaction. Taking a ‘hands on’ approach, you will; greet customers, provide full table service, work on the tills and ensure excellent communication with the kitchen.

Applicants should be able to demonstrate ability to proactively manage a team; ensuring tasks are completed in a timely manner and to a high standard. Previous experience in delivering first class customer service in a large catering and retail business is essential.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required along with proficiency in cash handling and reconciliation. An awareness of HACCP and health and safety procedures is also important.

Hours of work are 15 per week, from 9.30am to 5.30pm on a Sunday and Monday. This is a seasonal permanent position working from late March to early January each year.

Bakery Assistant

Estate Farm Shop Bakery

An interesting, permanent opportunity is available to assist in the production of high quality homemade breads, pastries and cakes for sale in our award winning estate farm shop.

Your duties will include all aspects of a busy bakery; weighing ingredients, packaging and labeling, stock rotation, pot washing and some cleaning. You will maintain our current high standards and work to ensure the smooth operation of the department.

No previous experience is necessary as full training will be given, however, it would be an advantage to have basic bakery skills and an awareness of food hygiene and health and safety practices. You should be an enthusiastic individual who can work well within a team.

Stores Person

Catering department

A new, permanent role is available within the catering team working 40 hours per week, five days out of seven on a rota basis.

You will be responsible for stock delivery and control for catering department items including; food and beverage, disposable items, alcohol, cleaning and consumable items. You will liaise with suppliers, arrange and receive deliveries, store and rotate stock and ensure all items are available when needed.

Elements of the role will be physically demanding as you will manually store and move heavy stock. Manual handling training will be provided.

Knowledge of HACCP and food hygiene is an advantage as you will need to follow HACCP procedures and record food temperatures during deliveries. Full training can be provided if needed.

You should be an organised, methodical person with good numerical skills and work with attention to detail. Previous administration experience would also be beneficial.

Casual Customer Service Assistant

Food-to-Go Units

Opportunities have arisen within our Catering departments, primarily based in food-to-go units; serving our top quality pre-packed sandwiches and cakes, all handmade at Chatsworth, alongside hot pasties, hot and cold drinks, ice cream and snacks.

In order to ensure our customers receive the best possible service you will be required to gain product knowledge, understand stock control, and take part in regular merchandising and cleaning duties. On occasion, you will also help in other catering areas as required.

You should be comfortable working with food and able to provide a warm friendly greeting for all our customers, at even the busiest times. Previous experience in a customer facing role and in operating a till is desirable but this is not essential as full training will be provided.

Casual hours are offered on an ad hoc, as and when required basis but are generally between 9.30am and 6.00pm.

Customer Service Assistant

Part-time hours
Estate Farm Shop & Café

Permanent roles are available within our Estate Farm Shop & Café, renowned for its seasonal produce and warm, friendly service.

You will primarily be based in the shop, however you will be required to assist in all areas of the Estate Farm Shop & Café including; the delicatessen, tills, fish counter, butchery, front of house, café, kitchen pot wash and food preparation areas.

No experience is necessary as full training will be given, however, you must have excellent customer service skills, be committed, enthusiastic and enjoy working as part of a successful team. Flexibility is also important as extra hours of work are available during our busiest times of the year.

Part-time Housekeeping Assistant

A permanent, part-time opportunity is available within the housekeeping team working two days per week from 8.00am to 12noon.

Your duties will include the general cleaning of the visitor route, holiday cottages, offices and cloakrooms, to include: vacuuming, dusting, polishing, moving lighter items of furniture and, on occasion, working from ladders and scaffolding. You will also take an active part in the annual deep clean of the visitor route.

Whilst full training will be provided, you should be comfortable handling precious objects.

You must be able to demonstrate the ability to work well on your own initiative as well as within a small team. Previous cleaning or housekeeping experience is desirable and any experience of working with antiques would be advantageous.

Hours of work total 8 per week, working 2 days per week ideally being a Monday and Tuesday with occasional weekend work. Please note that flexibility is available with days of work therefore please state your preferred two days on your application.

Retail Customer Service Assistant

15 hours on Wednesday & Thursday
