An opportunity has arisen for an experienced Catering Operations Manager to join us on the beautiful Chatsworth Estate in Derbyshire as Head of Catering for our diverse, high end catering division. Chatsworth - one of Britain’s leading heritage attractions and home to the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire is part of the Devonshire Group employing over 1,400 individuals and operating in a highly commercial manner.

We employ around 200 people in our catering division at Chatsworth; delivering consistently top quality, fresh food, at all our restaurants and events.  The current catering portfolio includes:  the table service Cavendish Rooms, Childers Luxury Afternoon Tea Room, Carriage House self-service restaurant and three further functions rooms, four Food To Go (takeaway kiosks) around the gardens and Farmyard and up to three third party operated Food To Go kiosks. We also manage an extensive diary of events throughout the year including weddings, dinners, VIP events, and other major outdoor events including the Country Fair and the Horse Trials

To be effective in this post you will be a very experienced General Catering Manager with a track record of success in delivering both day-to-day, high end catering and events, ideally with experience in a relevant sector.  Commercial and numerate, you will have responsibility for a growing turnover of over £3 million.

Executive Head Chef

A rare opportunity has arisen for an experienced Executive Head Chef at Chatsworth.

We are known for the quality of our food and service and you will be responsible for enhancing that reputation. Developing a range of constantly evolving, top quality, homemade food for restaurants including: our large self-service Carriage House Restaurant; the à la Carte Cavendish Restaurant; Flying Childers, serving brunch and afternoon tea; Food To Go: and for both large and small scale hospitality events, including weddings, corporate and fine dining.
Managing a team of over twenty people, working in various disciplines including pastry and sandwich production; you will be responsible for the recruitment, management, training and coordination of staff to ensure a successful and efficient operation.
 
Previous experience of working as a Head Chef or Executive Chef in a large operation is essential, together with a passion for producing food of a first class standard and excellent kitchen management skills. Sound knowledge of HACCP and COSHH regulations is also essential, with the ability to maintain excellent health and safety and hygiene standards.

This is a full time position working 40 hours per week, mainly from 9am to 5.30pm with a weekend off every 4 to 6 weeks and a requirement to work evenings for special events.

Training & Development Manager

An opportunity has arisen for an experienced training & development manager to undertake a key role within the HR team; based at Chatsworth with responsibility across the Devonshire group of businesses including Chatsworth, Bolton Abbey Estate, Devonshire Hotels Group and Lismore Castle in Ireland.

You will work closely with the Director of HR & Safety within a small team of reports, ensuring that training & development supports and enhances the overall strategy of the group and success of the department.   Agreeing annual training & development strategy, producing board level papers and progressing and communicating actions.

Responsible for delivering, developing and sourcing training modules for all levels of employee, up to senior management, within a wide range of businesses, as well as controlling compliance training; you will pay a key part in the success of our people and businesses - maintaining the group core values and contributing towards improved staff engagement.

Management experience and gravitas is essential as you will train some senior people, as well as providing occasional support for the Director of HR & Safety in disciplinary and grievance cases.

Previous training experience and an appropriate qualification is important, with the ability to develop excellent quality training tailored from off the shelf packages, write SMART reports, control budgets and mentor and develop individuals.

You will be supported by a part time administrator and able to call on assistance from the wider HR team. This is a full time post, generally working Monday to Friday but you should be flexible, prepared to work occasional weekends and evenings.

Catering Supervisor
Food-to-Go

A permanent, full-time supervisor is sought for our highly rated food-to-go outlets at Chatsworth; offering top quality, pre-packed sandwiches and cakes and a good selection of hot pastries, hot and cold drinks, ice cream and snacks.

Supported by the Head of Catering, you will take responsibility for the smooth operation of two units, taking an active part in staff training and stock control; ensuring our customers receive excellent customer service at all times and the units are clean, efficient and adequately stocked.  You will work alongside the Food and Beverage Manager to create new or innovative menus and product ideas.

You will also assist with recruitment, conduct staff appraisals and help supervise other areas of our catering restaurants.

You should be a good communicator with strong numerical skills, ideally you will have some supervisory experience (or be able to demonstrate supervisory skills) within a catering background. Knowledge of HACCP, food hygiene and H&S is important, although full training can be provided.

Archivist & Librarian

A vacancy has arisen within the Devonshire Collections, providing the opportunity to work with our extensive archive and historic library and rare book collection at Chatsworth.

You will play an important role in the exciting programme of growth for the Collections department, including exhibitions, interpretation, loans and preservation.

Reporting to the newly appointed Collections Manager you will head up the archives and libraries section of the Collections department, taking managerial responsibility for a small team and volunteers.

Your duties will be varied and include: answering internal and external enquiries, overseeing access to the archives and library, working to ensure the safe preservation of the archives and library and organising book and document conservation, improving the cataloguing of the current collection, undertaking research on the current collection, developing access to the collection and overseeing partnership projects, proactively seeking development and funding opportunities, and managing new accessions. You will also have the opportunity to undertake international courier duties.

We welcome applications from organised, enthusiastic individuals, educated to degree level, with a postgraduate certificate in either archives or libraries and relevant experience in an archive or library setting together with good knowledge of documentation and cataloguing and current archival and library standards.

An interesting, permanent opportunity has arisen within the friendly housekeeping team caring for the Duke & Duchess of Devonshire’s private apartments at Chatsworth.

Swimming Teacher
4 hours per shift (academic term only)

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a swimming teacher to work within a private swimming pool on the Chatsworth Estate.

Applicants must have strong organisational skills, be enthusiastic, creative and able to provide an enjoyable learning environment to adults and children of all abilities.  This involves the need for patience, diplomacy, imagination, good communication skills and confidence.

The successful applicant will have a minimum Level 2 Teaching certificate, alongside, or working towards a RLSS/NPLQ qualification. A current first aid at work certificate would be advantageous. You must be willing to undergo a DBS check.

You will work 4 hours per shift, generally between 2pm to 6.30pm, and up to 3 days per week, with flexibility to cover additional lessons.   Some paid time each week will also be required to undertake lesson planning and evaluation. These additional hours can be worked from home.

Chatsworth Part Time Guides

Permanent: working 3 part days for 10 months each year March to early Jan (or)

We have interesting vacancies for guides to join our friendly and knowledgeable team for the start of our 2018 season, in which we will hold our exciting new Chatsworth Renewed Exhibition running until 9th November 2018.

As a Chatsworth Guide you will be integral to the enjoyment of our visitors, bringing the history of Chatsworth alive as you engage with the public, sharing your knowledge of the exhibitions art displays and fabric of Chatsworth. You will create a warm and engaging welcome for our visitors.  Using your understanding of the visitor route and security procedures, you will also help safeguard the security of the house, our visitors and the collection.

With training, you will have the opportunity to deliver short talks and tours, both in the house and garden on a regular basis.  Excellent communication skills and the willingness to learn is a prerequisite.

You should be an approachable person who enjoys variety in their role, ranging from costumed interpretation through to walking tours in the garden.   With your passion for history and Chatsworth, you will be motivated to enhance our visitor’s experience through the sharing of your expert knowledge.

Hours of work are generally a minimum of 4 per day, worked between 9.00am and 6.00pm, Monday to Sunday. Two options of hours are available as shown below:

Position 1 – Seasonal Permanent, 14 hours per week, working 3 days out of 7 on a Rota basis which includes 1 weekend day.    This is a seasonal permanent contract, working from late March to early January each year.

Weekend Car Park Assistant
Calton Lees

A permanent position is available, based at our Calton Lees car park, for a friendly, customer focused individual, who is comfortable working alone for the majority of the day,  covering Saturday and Sunday.

You will be an ambassador for Chatsworth as you will often be the first person our visitors meet when arriving on a visit and therefore it is important that you are a self- starter, able provide a warm welcome throughout the day; willing to learn about Chatsworth and provide information to enhance the enjoyment of our visitors. 

Your duties will include; issuing tickets, collecting parking fees, providing information, litter picking and directing visitors to suitable car parking spaces.

Applicants do not need previous experience, but must be entirely customer focused with great people skills and have previous cash handling experience. This position is subject to a DBS check.

Hours of work – 16 hours per week March 2018 to October 2018 reducing to 14 hours per week October 2018 until March 2019.  Hours worked will be between 8.00am and 5.30pm Saturday and Sunday.

Catering department

Several full and part-time opportunities are available within the catering and food-to-go restaurants at Chatsworth.

No previous catering experience is necessary as our full training will ensure that you are able to provide the exceptional customer service of which we are proud.  However, you must be able to demonstrate an interest in customer care, be a great team worker, friendly, cheerful and willing to be flexible.

Stores Person
Catering department

A new, permanent role is available within the catering team working 40 hours per week, five days out of seven on a rota basis.  

You will be responsible for stock delivery and control for catering department items including; food and beverage, disposable items, alcohol, cleaning and consumable items. You will liaise with suppliers, arrange and receive deliveries, store and rotate stock and ensure all items are available when needed. 

Elements of the role will be physically demanding as you will manually store and move heavy stock. Manual handling training will be provided.

Knowledge of HACCP and food hygiene is an advantage as you will need to follow HACCP procedures and record food temperatures during deliveries. Full training can be provided if needed.

You should be an organised, methodical person with good numerical skills and work with attention to detail. Previous administration experience would also be beneficial.
