Customer Service Assistants
Chatsworth Estate Farm Shop

If you are looking for part-time, permanent work but want to work in a fun, friendly and inclusive environment, then the Estate Farm Shop and Café has just the role for you.

You’ll be given all the training you need to be excellent in your job. You will be supported by your colleagues, supervisors and managers, and will also receive our customer service and food hygiene training too.

Should you have a preference for working in the shop, you will be front of house, serving food from all counters and taking payment at the tills. In the café, you will take orders, serve food, make hot drinks and also work at the till.

In either role, you will be providing our excellent customer service of which we are proud, meaning you can go home knowing you have helped make a difference to each and every one of our customer’s days.

Retail Warehouse Supervisor

An interesting role of Retail Warehouse Supervisor is available on the Chatsworth Estate.

You will supervise a small friendly team, receiving and recording stock and distributing it to our retail shops on the Estate. Whilst your work will be assisted by the use of company vehicles and a forklift truck, some of the work will be physically demanding including lifting, carrying and moving heavy boxes.

Previous experience in a warehouse environment, a qualification in the operation of forklift trucks, together with the supervisory experience and strong leadership skills would be an advantage. You should also be numerate and organised, able to develop excellent working relationships with suppliers and employees across the Estate. A valid driving license is essential.

Hours of work total 40 per week, from 6.30am to 3.00pm on Monday to Friday. Flexibility is essential, particularly at busy times, including occasional weekend working.

Trainee Forester

University Placement Opportunity

Following on from our improvements within the Forestry department, we are pleased to be able to offer an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic, highly motivated forestry mid-year student, based on the Chatsworth Estate in Derbyshire.

It is envisaged that this will be suitable for applicants studying a relevant degree and looking to obtain a work placement in order to further their learning.

You will work under the instruction of our Forestry Manager in order to assist in delivering multipurpose forestry on a modern estate.

This is a one year position, starting 1st August 2019, and accompanied by a salary offered in line with the National Minimum Wage relevant to age - reasonably priced accommodation may be available on the Estate.

Hours of work are 39 per week, usually from 7:30am to 4:30pm, Monday to Friday, but some flexibility around these hours are expected.

Assistant Functions Supervisor
Catering

An opportunity has arisen for an Assistant Functions Supervisor to support our Supervisor in delivering both day and evening events, ranging from small corporate events, private dinners and parties, to large and lavish weddings.

Your main duties will include: studying event planners, setting rooms, communicating with clients, ensuring rooms are cleared down and set up for the next event, and most importantly, everything involved in helping to ensure a perfect event for our guests.

In the absence of the Function Supervisor you will also help supervise and motivate the events team, assisting with training and promoting excellent customer service, whilst working towards the same end goal of delivering fantastic events.

To suit the type and size, the majority of events are held in the beautifully appointed restaurants and function suites within the Stables at Chatsworth. Occasionally, you will work on VIP events in the Great Dining room and on large scale outside events such as the Horse Trials and Country Fair.

We seek applicants possessing a passion for delivering top quality events without a hitch, combining great customer care standards together with meticulous attention to detail. Applicants must also demonstrate supervisory ability, although previous supervisory experience is not essential. Preferably, you will also hold a current driving license.

This is a seasonal permanent, full-time position working 40 hours per week, on a rota basis working late March to early January each year. Due to the nature of events, this will include working weekends and evenings, however, your working days are usually rostered at least one month in advance.

Located in the beautiful Stables building within the parkland at Chatsworth, this restaurant offers a wide variety of local and seasonal food and drinks.

Several full and part-time opportunities are available within the catering restaurants at Chatsworth, at hours and days to suit your availability, as described below.

No previous catering experience is necessary as our full training will ensure that you are able to provide the exceptional customer service of which we are proud. However, you must be able to demonstrate an interest in customer care, be a great team worker, friendly, cheerful and willing to be flexible.

Your duties will include: serving customers, working on the till, serving hot and cold drinks and food, clearing tables and generally keeping the restaurants clean and tidy.

Roles available:

Casual Customer Service Assistants
Weddings & Events

Interesting opportunities are available to assist in the delivery of Chatsworth’s high profile events including anything from small, intimate dinner parties to large and luxurious weddings.

No experience is necessary, however, all our events are delivered to our exacting warm standards of customer service and you must have the ability, enthusiasm and cheerful personality to meet these requirements.

Your duties will be varied including: greeting customers, resolving enquiries and serving guests quickly and efficiently. You will also help in the smooth set up and operation of events; supporting the bar, front of house and kitchen areas, as well as assisting in setting up the function venue - moving chairs, tables and laying tables (which can be physically demanding).

Hours offered will be on a casual basis with the majority of the work at the weekend or evenings with the possibility of late finishes.

Applicants must be aged 18 or over as you will be required to serve alcohol. A full driving license would also be preferable.

Flying Childers Restaurant

Customer service with a difference is what you will be providing in our Flying Childers restaurant; because this restaurant sets a new level.

We have several opportunities for casual Customer Service Assistants to join the team at The Cavendish Club; a friendly private club based at the Estate Office with a membership consisting of employees, tenants and members of the Chatsworth sport clubs.

You will help with the smooth operation of the club by working effectively within a small team; serving drinks and snacks from the bar, serving food at tables and supporting the kitchen during busy service.

You must possess great people skills and be happy to maintain the excellent level of customer service enjoyed at the club. Experience of cash handling would be beneficial but is not essential. Due to restrictions on the sale of alcohol, applicants must be aged 18 or over.

We are seeking applicants available on Wednesday and/or Friday lunchtimes, between 10am and 3pm, with flexibility to finish late if required.

Other casual shifts will be available when the club is open on; Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings from 5pm or 6pm to 11pm.

Farmyard & Adventure Playground Assistants
Saturday or Sunday positions

Are you looking for part-time work and do you like to work outside with animals and children? If so, we welcome an application from you for this role.

You will work as part of a friendly team and your responsibilities will include; providing excellent customer service to our visitors, assisting with the general care of animals, supervising animal handling and patrolling the playground whilst being mindful of safety issues.

Using your excellent communication skills, you will also have the opportunity to deliver interesting demonstrations and talks to groups of people and children on educational visits.

You will need to be friendly and approachable, able to provide excellent customer service and work well as part of a team. You will also need to be confident around animals, ideally with good H&S awareness too. First aid training can be provided if you do not hold a current certificate.

Seasonal permanent roles are available, meaning you will work from late-March until early January each year on the below days. Please note that you may be offered extra hours during busy periods and to cover holiday absence.

Visitor Welcome Assistant
3 days per week or casual hours

Would you like to work as part of a friendly, supportive team, welcoming and providing visitors with the information they need to ensure they experience the very best of Chatsworth?

You will be supported in all elements of your role – spending as long as required learning from an experienced member of the team, and once your confidence grows, you will use your training to; take payment, promote the sale of tickets, guidebooks, audios and tours and also answer customer queries.

You will start by working at the beginning of the visitor route in the House, as this is where the majority of your colleagues will be around to help you. You will then move to other till admission points based in the garden, farmyard and car park in which you will work alone or in pairs.

To succeed in this role you will enjoy working as part of a team, be happy to provide excellent customer service and be comfortable working outdoors during all weathers. A current driver’s license would also be a bonus as you will be able to drive a buggy.

You will work 12 hours per week over 3 days (including weekends and occasional evenings) between the hours of 8.00am and 6.00pm on a rota basis. This is a seasonal permanent position meaning you will work from late March to early January each year.

Alternatively, casual hours are also available meaning you will work on an as and when required basis to suit your availability.

Chatsworth Part Time Guides

Working 3 part days, from March to January each year

We have interesting vacancies for guides to join our friendly and knowledgeable team for the start of our 2019 season.

You will be integral to the enjoyment of our visitors, bringing the history of Chatsworth alive as you engage with the public, sharing your knowledge of the exhibitions art displays and fabric of Chatsworth. You will create a warm and engaging welcome for our visitors. Using your understanding of the visitor route and security procedures, you will also help safeguard the security of the house, our visitors and the collection.

With training, you will have the opportunity to deliver short talks and tours, both in the house and garden on a regular basis. Excellent communication skills and the willingness to learn is a prerequisite.

You should be an approachable person who enjoys variety in their role, ranging from costumed interpretation through to walking tours in the garden. With your passion for history and Chatsworth, you will be motivated to enhance our visitor’s experience through the sharing of your expert knowledge.

Hours of work are generally a minimum of 4 per day, worked between 9.00am and 6.00pm, Monday to Sunday. You may also be asked to work occasional evenings.
