Food Buying and Development Manager
Chatsworth Estate Farm Shop

Do you have experience of food buying for farm shops? If so, we have a fantastic opportunity for you to join our award winning farm shop team where you can really make a difference in enhancing our product range and quality. We pride ourselves on our estate ‘in-house’ produced fresh food ranges, and from sourcing locally, with provenance, quality and product presentation at the heart of everything we do here at Chatsworth.

As the Food Buyer you will manage all buying, own label product development, contracts and the supply chain, working in partnership with the Farm Shop General Manager to maximise the sales and profit generated through trading activities.

You will take ownership for developing the food range in the farm shop, sourcing the best local food and drink products – having a real talent for spotting or creating great tasting products that our customers will enjoy. At the same time you will need to be commercially astute, developing and managing a profitable range and to deliver on a number of financial and operational KPIs.

You must be highly numerate, organized and disciplined, skillful at negotiating and knowledgeable about design, packaging and food legislation.
If you have a detailed knowledge of food development, ingredients and food purchasing, then this role is absolutely the right role for you!

Ideally, you should be educated to degree level or similar in food technology/science or have the relevant experience in food procurement and own label or fresh food/catering product development.

Clerk of Works/ Buildings Contracts Manager

A permanent position is available to oversee the safety and compliance of in-house tradesmen and contractors working on small-scale projects and maintenance works at Chatsworth House, and to procure and project manage a variety of smaller projects.

To succeed in this role, you will use your expert knowledge of the building industry to hit the ground running. However, your personal skills are equally as important and you will be; an excellent communicator, diplomatic but persuasive, honest and vigilant, and able to develop excellent working relationships.

Ideally you will also have detailed knowledge of historic building construction, maintenance and preservation. A construction qualification (Degree/ HNC/HND), CSCS, SMST, or significant relevant experience and membership of ICWCI/ ICW is also an advantage.

This is a full-time, permanent position working 40 hours per week from 8.00am to 4.30pm on Monday to Friday with flexibility for occasional weekend work.

Baker
Estate Farm Shop

A wonderful opportunity has arisen for a full time baker to join our friendly and experienced bakery team at the award winning Estate Farm Shop.

This is a varied and interesting role in which you will work within the bakery, maintaining our current high standards of bakery production and the smooth operation of the department. Your role will encompass all aspects of a bakery, particularly baking of breads, cakes and confectionary. The successful applicant will be enthusiastic, committed and keen to introduce and enhance our current ranges. A bakery qualification or equivalent experience is essential in this role.

This is a permanent position working 40 hours per week over 5 days including at least one weekend day. However, flexibility will be required around working hours to meet the demands of the business particularly at busy times.

Arboricultural Apprentice

Chatsworth Forestry Department are seeking an enthusiastic, highly motivated Arboricultural Apprentice to work alongside the Forestry Team on the Chatsworth Estate in Derbyshire.

In this role you will work under the instruction of the Arboricultural Supervisor to assist in delivering multipurpose forestry and arboricultural operations on a modern estate.

Due to the rural location of the role, you must hold a full, clean UK driving license.

You will work 40 hours per week, usually from 7.30am to 4.15pm Monday to Friday, but some flexibility around these hours are expected.

This is a two-year fixed-term position accompanied by a standard apprenticeship wage for the first year then progressing on to an age dependent wage for the second year.

Casual Guides

Do you enjoy engaging with members of the public and have an interest in history and art? If so, we have several vacancies available for you to join the guiding team on a casual, as and when required basis.

You will be integral to the enjoyment of our visitors, bringing the history of Chatsworth alive as you share your knowledge of the exhibitions art displays and fabric of Chatsworth. You will create a warm and engaging welcome for our visitors. Using your understanding of the visitor route and security procedures, you will also help safeguard the security of the house, our visitors and the collection.

With training, you will have the opportunity to deliver short talks and tours, both in the house and garden. Excellent communication skills and the willingness to learn is a prerequisite.

To succeed in this role you will be an approachable person who enjoys variety in their role, ranging from costumed interpretation through to walking tours in the garden.

You should have good availability for work and be able to commit to several shifts per week, particularly at weekends, which are generally 4 hours per day between the hours of 9.00am and 6.00pm.

Casual Visitor Welcome Assistants

Would you like to work as part of a friendly, supportive team, welcoming and providing visitors with the information they need to ensure they experience the very best of Chatsworth?

You will be supported in all elements of your role and you will use your training to; take payment, promote the sale of tickets, guidebooks and tours and also answer customer queries.

To succeed in this role you will enjoy working as part of a team, be happy to provide excellent customer service and be comfortable working outdoors during all weathers. A current driver’s license would also be a bonus as you will be able to drive a buggy.

You should have good availability for work, particularly at weekends, and be able to work at least 4 hours per day between the hours of 8.00am to 6.00pm on a rota basis.

Interpretation Coordinator (Temporary & Internal Only)
2 days per week

Would you like to work as part of a friendly, supportive team where you will assist the Visitor Services Manager and Head of Visitor Experience in the coordination, and administration of the interpretation program at Chatsworth?

You will have the opportunity to coordinate and compile a thorough evaluation of our new Multimedia guide as well as really getting a feel for current trends and themes through the monitoring of feedback on comment cards.

To succeed in this role you will have strong IT skills and enjoy working as part of a diverse team cultivating strong working relationships across departments.

You will work 16 hours per week over 2 days out of 7 (exact days to be agreed) for a fixed-term period of two months from your start date.
