A message from our Chief Executive

Following the changes in government guidance which came in to effect on 13 May, we have been working closely with our partners across the Peak District and Derbyshire to develop detailed and rigorous plans for how and when we will be able to begin to reopen safely and responsibly. Our main priority remains the safety of our colleagues, our communities and our visitors.

As a vital food service outlet, the Chatsworth Estate Farm Shop continues to serve customers, both in-store and via our new food delivery and collection services. We have implemented measures to protect our customers and employees, details of which can be found in the farm shop section of the website

While most other areas of Chatsworth remain closed, including the house, garden, farmyard, and gift shops, our car parks at Chatsworth and Calton Lees, as well as one of our takeaway food outlets, have reopened.

The news that we can begin our reopening programme is certainly heartening for us, but I also know that there may be some anxieties about an influx of visitors in to the area. I want to reassure everyone that this gradual reopening will be controlled and managed. We are liaising with the Peak District National Park, and we will be displaying their posters at the main pedestrian entrances to the park and in our car parks, reinforcing the messages of social distancing, respect for local communities and to not park outside approved areas. Access to our car parks will be via an online advance booking system, where visitors can book a time slot during which to arrive. This allows us to limit the number of cars, and ensure a steady flow of visitors to enable safe social distancing and avoid congestion.

Our goal is to ensure that we can once again offer visitors the warmest of welcomes, in a safe and responsible manner. Although we are not encouraging visitors to travel to the area, as the government restrictions are relaxed visitor numbers will gradually increase, and it is important that we provide appropriate parking facilities, to reduce any impact on local communities.

This is only the first phase of what will be a long and complex process, but we will continue to work closely with all of our local partners, to ensure that we can come through these challenging times together.

Increased measures at the estate farm shop

We have added a number of control measures to protect our customers and team:

  • Hand wash stations have been installed outside the shop entrance. We ask that all customers clean their hands thoroughly before handling any produce or entering the shop
  • During busy periods we will be operating a single shopper policy, whereby only one person from each family group can enter the shop
  • We have introduced an external queuing area, which will be used during busy periods 
  • At checkout and across other areas of the shop, we have marked spaces on the floor to help our customers adhere to safe social distancing
  • We request customers use contactless payment and avoid using cash where possible
  • Team members will work throughout the day cleaning touch points such as handbaskets, trolley handles, door handles till areas and card machines
  • We also have a new collection and delivery service to support those in self-isolation

Friends memberships

As a result of not being able to open, and the potential for Friends to need to self-isolate, we will be offering all Friends who renew their membership between 1 April 2020 and 31 March 2021 an additional six months membership free of charge.

Future bookings

If you have already booked tickets and need to postpone your visit, please email visit@chatsworth.org.

Anyone with tickets to visit on a date when we are closed, or for an event that has had to be cancelled/postponed, will be contacted by our bookings team, at least two weeks before the date of the visit. You do not need to take any action to contact us.

Gift vouchers

Gift vouchers to the house, garden and farmyard as well as afternoon tea vouchers which are due to expire are automatically extended until 31 October 2021, excluding 1 November 2020 to 31 March 2021.
