In addition to our daily activities, we also host a selection of talks, tours and workshops throughout the year in the house, garden, farmyard and park.
Please note that all activities within or beginning in the house, garden and/or farmyard require visitors to have paid admission. All activities are subject to cancellation due to weather or circumstances beyond our control.
In the house

An introductory talk on the history of the house that starts by the weeping ash tree outside the house entrance.

Hear facts, figures and hidden stories of the house and collection, and explore the rich history of dogs in art, as well as the Cavendish family's love of dogs as part of the exhibition The Dog.

Taster tour of the house

A tour with our expert guides of house, the history and the 2019 exhibition The Dog that starts at the house entrance. This tour covers additional information not in the multimedia guide. Afterwards, you can re-enter the house to see things at your own pace.
Tours are limited, first-come, first-served.

Garden walking tour

A guided walk covering the interesting and hidden stories from 400 years of the garden.
Garden buggy tour
£4 per person
30 minutes | Every hour 11.30am-3.30pm
Extra buggy tours during peak opening
A guided buggy ride around the depths of the garden to see key features such as the Ring Pond, the Rockery and the Cascade, and learn about the fascinating history of the garden and the wider landscape.
Buggy tours are very popular; waiting times may vary. Tours are limited; first-come, first-served.

Get a bird's eye view of our garden and park with this special tour of the Belvedere.
Please be aware that access includes a winding staircase.

You can handle all sorts of cuddly farm creatures here, three times a day. There's no better way to get up close and personal with our chicks, lambs and goat kids (in season).

Meet the animals at our daily talk where one of our friendly experts will explain how we care for them.

Meet us in the farmyard on weekends and school holidays for the chance to explore the landscape plus learn a little bit more about the area with commentary suitable for all ages.
During some special events including February half-term and Halloween, they're themed as well!

3.30pm | Mid-April - October
You can see our cows being milked almost every day until the end of October. Fun and educational – it's a great way for little ones to learn about where their favourite drink comes from.
