Dogs are sadly not allowed into the farmyard

Farmyard & adventure playground

The farmyard at Chatsworth was opened in 1973, intended for children of all ages to learn how the land is used, where their food comes from, and why and how we keep cows and sheep.

With animal demonstrations all year round (dependent on season), children can see cow milking, chicks hatching, piglets, trout rearing, and much much more. We also have a 'Guinea pig village' where children can get up close to guinea pigs in daily animal handling sessions.

There's more to enjoy than ever before, with a climbing forest suitable for children over 6 and adults alike, right in the heart of our spectacular woodland adventure playground. We also hold regular craft sessions in the Oak Barn, and take trailer rides into Stand Wood.

So if your young farmers like to meet animals, make new friends, try new things, and learn and play all day, they're going to love our farmyard. We also want grown-ups to have a great time too, so you can enjoy refreshments in the café or browse in the shop.

Farmyard

01 The farmyard
Come and see how all sorts of animals live in a real
farmyard, from ponies and donkeys to cows and
chickens. You can also help to care for the animals,
when you book a young farmers session.

02 Adventure playground
We've got a wonderful adventure playground, full of
spiral slides, climbing frames, scramble nets, splashy fun
and sandy places. It's fabulous fun for kids (and adults)
of all ages.

03 Meet the animals
You can handle all sorts of cuddly farm creatures here,
three times a day. There's no better way to get up close
and personal with cute guinea pigs, goats, sheep and lambs.

04 Milking demonstrations
You can see our cows being milked every day until the
end of October in the farmyard at 3.30pm. Fun and
educational - it's a great way for little ones to learn
about where their favourite drink comes from!

05 Climbing forest
Brand new in Easter 2012, and set in the heart of our
woodland adventure playground, the climbing forest is
the ideal place to reach new heights for kids (and adults)
aged six and over.

06 Trailer rides
Jump on board and experience one of our trailer rides
over weekends and school holidays. With commentary
explaining more about the farmyard and the wider
estate, it's educational as well as fun!

07 The café
It's feeding time whenever you want at the farmyard, with
refreshments, children's picnic boxes and even an ice cream
machine, all available from 10.30am to 5.30pm every day.
