The course will cover a variety of techniques over the sessions, including observational drawing techniques, safe use of tools, mark making, transferring your design and printing techniques. Other areas covered include:
- Monoprints – Drawing from potted plants grown in the service glasshouse at Chatsworth, this is a great way to practice your drawing and mark making skills whilst getting to know your equipment and learning how ink responds to line and pressure.
- Linocut prints – Carry out observational drawing and develop these in the studio to design and prepare your first linocut. Create prints on different surfaces and explore collaged grounds to print on to.
- Texture & Shape – Experimental printing with a range of textured surfaces and shapes. Using found objects, leaves and recycled materials, create a series of exciting abstract imagery.
- Collagraph printing – Using drawings to design and create a new collagraph plate for printing.
This course is suitable for absolute beginners and also those who wish to develop their practice. Teaching focus will be on beginner printmakers, but you are welcome to attend and develop your own self-guided practice if you have attended previous printmaking classes at Chatsworth. The tutor will be on hand to answer questions and help as required.
The Old Potting Shed is a step free, accessible venue but please contact [email protected] if you have any questions about your specific needs.
Part of the session will be spent taking inspiration from the garden, walking in all weather. Please wear suitable footwear and clothing.
Please meet at the top garden gates (near the Stables) at 9.50am before each session. Tea and coffee will be provided.
