Have you ever fancied having a go at Tai Chi? Why not try our family taster session where you can learn more about the practice and experience something new.

Tai Chi movement can help train your mind and body and improve your health, fitness, motivation and concentration. It can be fun too! Be inspired by the water and join us by the River Derwent to add some gentle flowing movements to the start your day.

Your tutor will introduce the key themes of Tai Chi and then guide you through simple movements to build your confidence.

About the session

This event will take place outdoors, whatever the weather.

Please meet at Queen Mary’s Bower in the Chatsworth Park 15 minutes before the event start time. Queen Mary’s Bower (pictured) is a stone building on the side of the River Derwent, visible on the left hand side as you cross the bridge into the Chatsworth car park. It is a 5 minute walk down an incline from the car park to the bower.

The Tai Chi sessions involve mainly static postures and gentle movement. Please email education@chatsworth.org if you have any questions about accessibility.

About your instructor

Russell runs Zen Fitness in Derby and is an athlete and Tai Chi instructor. He is a successful national competitive runner and martial arts expert and has specialized in Traditional Yang style Tai Chi Ch’uan for 35 years.

A Celebrating the Cascade event

Our new Celebrating the Cascade wellness sessions have been designed to delight and inspire you. We invite you to enjoy the calm and beauty of nature in the garden and wider landscape. Find balance as you step away from daily routines and pause with us by still and flowing waters. We invite you to open your heart and mind to the environment and connect with our wonderful surroundings.

The Celebrating the Cascade project is made possible with The National Lottery Heritage Fund. Thanks to National Lottery Players, the project is working to restore the Cascade, safeguarding it for the enjoyment of future generations and enabling more people to get involved with Chatsworth.

If you would like to support this project, please make a donation to Chatsworth House Trust here.
