This weekend course is perfect for those who have little to no experience of bookbinding, that would love to learn a new skill experimenting with different book structures.
About the session
Day 1: Folded structures - Concertina fold, falling concertina, maze books
You will become familiar with a range of different book structures made by different artists and designers, then you will be taught how to make a number of different folded book structures.
Day 2: Sewn structures - Pamphlet stitch, pamphlet with concertina, Japanese side stitch
You will be shown how to make a simple pamphlet stitch notebook, and how to use this to make a combined structure while being taken step by step through a Japanese side stitch book.
This course will be taught with one to one support from the book artist and tutor, Kim Bevan.
Meeting point and refreshments
Please meet at the top garden gates (near the Stables) at 9.50am for a prompt 10am start.
Tickets include tea and coffee throughout the session.
We will break for lunch. You are welcome to bring a packed lunch; alternatively, the Carriage House Café offers hot meals, soup, and sandwiches.

About the artist
This workshop is run by Paperbased, led by experienced paper artist Kim Bevan.
Kim provides workshops for all ages here at Chatsworth and in her own studio. In her own practice she makes artist books which explore 3D sculptural folding techniques, and she creates unique artwork using paper cutting and printmaking.
