Flowers in the garden: watercolour workshop with Pam Smart
Saturday 24 June | 10am to 4pm
£125 per person, including garden entry and lunch
Develop a fresh and vibrant approach to painting flowers with pen and wash techniques with international artist and Peak District Artisan Pam Smart. You will be amazed at how even the simplest of line drawings can be transformed by adding watercolour. Take your inspiration from a beautiful posy of fresh flowers, which you will personally collect from the Chatsworth Cutting Garden.
Pen and wash is a simple technique to master and even beginners can feel confident in creating a unique and vibrant piece of work. Professional artists’ materials will be provided but feel free to bring along your favourite watercolour brushes if you have them. Please also provide your own apron.
The day includes tea, coffee and a delicious locally sourced graze box lunch from the Chatsworth Estate Farm Shop.
We will spend time in the cutting garden and so recommend wearing long trousers and sturdy shoes. The garden is accessible but there may be some inclines. Please contact education@chatsworth.org if you have any specific access requirements.
Meet at 9.50am at the top garden gates (near the Stables) ready for a 10am start.

About the artist - Pam Smart:
Working from her studio in the beautiful Peak District, Pam takes inspiration from the natural and built environment, painting flowers, landscapes and architecture in striking colours. Pam has created a vibrant body of work, often graphic in style, combining elements of pattern and decoration with a vibrant colour palette. Pam is a member of the Peak District Artisans and has exhibited her work both nationally and internationally, including at the prestigious Mall Galleries in London.
Pam graduated with a BA Hons in Graphic Design and two prestigious awards from the Royal Society of Arts. After receiving a travel bursary Pam set out on a seven month journey of discovery around India where her love of colour and pattern was indulged and saturated. After her travels she qualified as a specialist teacher of Art and Design and taught in secondary schools for 25 years, finishing her career as Head of Art at Chapel-en-le-Frith High School in Derbyshire.
