£65 | 9.30am to 1pm
- 16 September: Arcadia
- 7 October: Kitchen and Cutting Garden
Begin the day with a demo and quick drawing exercises in The Old Potting Shed, our learning centre, followed by an expert-led tour of one area of the garden. After the tour you will participate in observational drawing back at The Old Potting Shed, you will share and review your drawings.
This experience includes access to the garden on the day and refreshments. We suggest that participants bring their own painting kits and sketchbooks. We will provide dry drawing materials (i.e. pencils/pastels/charcoal etc) and paper if needed.
Our Ornamental Garden Manager, Lucy Wharton, will lead this tour of Arcadia, a newly developed area in the garden. Each of the four glades has its own individual character, determined by the contrasting forms, textures and colours of the plant species. After the tour, you will participate in observational drawing on location, and illustrate your own Arcadia scene.
Kitchen & Cutting Garden
The Kitchen and Cutting Garden is a colourful and vibrant part of the landscape at Chatsworth. It also produces a vast selection of fruit, vegetables and flowers, utilised across the estate today. At this workshop, our Production Garden Manager, Mick Brown, will take you on a tour of this part of the garden and you’ll learn about how it has developed over the centuries. Following the tour, you will participate in observational drawing on location, and illustrate a still life inspired by some produce handpicked from the garden.
