Learn how to turn a book into a sculpture.

About the workshop

You will be guided through a number of folding and cutting techniques to turn an old book into a one off piece of art. Be inspired by the story itself, the illustrations or simple shapes and structures, and create an artwork to display for years to come.

Book sculpture has become a popular area of art and design with many artists keen to use recycled materials such as books that are being thrown away or are broken, and using these to make sculptural forms.

Please bring a hardback book you are happy to turn into a unique sculptural design. Some books will be provided if you do not wish to bring your own.

Meeting point and refreshments

Please meet at the top garden gates (near the Stables) at 9.50am for a prompt 10am start.

Tickets include tea and coffee throughout the session, please bring a packed lunch or use our onsite cafes.

Accessibility

The Old Potting Shed (our base for each session) is a step-free, accessible venue with an accessible toilet.

If you have any questions about your specific needs or require a carer ticket, please email [email protected]

About the tutor

This workshop is run by Paperbased, led by experienced paper artist Kim Bevan. Kim provides workshops for all ages here at Chatsworth and in her own studio.

In her own practice she makes artist books which explore 3D sculptural folding techniques, and she creates unique artwork using paper cutting and printmaking.
