10am - 4pm | £125
The Old Potting Shed, Chatsworth Garden
Improve your dressmaking skills by joining Chatsworth Textile Technician Amy Secker in our garden learning centre to create a Japanese cross-back apron - perfect for your gardening, cooking, and hobbies.
This hands-on activity is ideal for those with a little sewing experience but who perhaps need guidance and support before tackling a project, as well as competent sewers who want something lovely to take home, and the opportunity to meet like-minded creatives.
What you will learn:
- Cutting from a pattern
- Applying interfacing
- Accurate seams
- Patch pockets
- Inserting a lining (optional)
Equipment
Please bring your own machine and the fabric you'd like to use for your project with you; this will ensure you are familiar with your tools and ready to go.
We will have a small stock of accent fabrics available and will provide all the other tools and threads needed to create and finish your 'new wardrobe essential'!
What to bring:
- Your sewing machine (in good working order)
- 1.5 metres main fabric (we recommend linen, medium-heavy weight cotton, denim or curtain fabric)
- 1.5 metres for lining, optional (we recommend linen, cotton, or denim curtain fabric)
It is recommended that you wash your fabric before making your apron to prevent it from shrinking on the first wash.
Important
Please note sewing machines must be in safe, good working order and may be PAT tested on the day - we reserve the right to refuse use of any machine that does not meet essential safety requirements.
Meeting Point
Please meet at the top garden gates by the Stables at 9.50am for a prompt 10am start.
Refreshments
The day includes tea and coffee. Please bring a packed lunch or take advantage of our on-site cafes.
The workshop includes access to the Chatsworth Garden on the day.
Accessibility
The workshop takes place in our garden learning centre, the Old Potting Shed, which is step-free with accessible facilities.
Please contact [email protected] if you have any specific access requirements or will require assistance transporting your sewing machine from the car park to the learning centre.
If you require a carer ticket, please contact us. Please note that carer tickets do not include participation in the workshop.
