The Enchanted Garden... at home

The Enchanted Garden was the theme chosen for Christmas at Chatsworth 2025, with visitors invited to experience the hidden magic and quiet beauty of the natural world in midwinter.

Created in collaboration with acclaimed British artists and animators, this immersive, multi-sensory experience invited visitors into a realm where the mystical spirit of the outdoors reigned. Twenty extraordinary spaces in the house were transformed with light, sound, and shadow play; with towering Christmas trees, a grand cluster of mistletoe, shimmering copper toadstools, and twirling oak leaf archways, all inspired by the wonders of nature.

As part of the experience, award-winning mixed-reality artists Studio McGuire crafted bespoke animations, projections, and music, adding layers of storytelling and atmosphere. They transformed the spaces with seasonal scenes and enchanted fairies, while woodland creatures crouched in secret corners, and tiny doorways hinted at pathways to hidden lands.

The experience included treasures from the Devonshire Collections and new commissions by Peak District-based artists Winning Works, Everdenes, Wirksworth Pottery and Waney Grain, alongside majestic willow sculptures by internationally renowned artist Emma Stothard.

In the garden, visitors discovered enchanting spaces where reality and magic intertwined along an immersive light trail. Created by light artists Luminism, the trail transformed some of Chatsworth's best-loved garden landmarks, including the Cascade, Willow Tree Fountain, Rock Garden, Ring Pond and Maze. The journey concluded with a spectacular animated light and sound projection on the house, inspired by the theme and brought to life by Studio McGuire.

The music featured in the South Façade projection and in the Great Dining Room was commissioned for The Enchanted Garden. The composer, Spesh Maloney, has kindly released the tracks on streaming platforms including Spotify, Deezer, Amazon Music, and also on YouTube.
