By car

  • From the M1, take junction 29, Chesterfield and follow the brown signs: 16 miles
  • From Matlock, take the A6, then the B6012: 8 miles
  • From Manchester, take the A6 and A623: 38 miles
  • We are 30-minute drive from Chesterfield railway station.
  • We are a 40-minute drive from Sheffield railway station.

If travelling through Baslow, you will see the Golden Gates into Chatsworth. These are for authorised access only, except in the case of some special events. Please follow the brown signs for the public entrance to Chatsworth on the B6012.

Car parks

The house car park – conveniently located next to the house, garden, stables and farmyard – is open every day until 7pm.

  • Parking is free with all tickets booked online.
  • The car park costs £4 per vehicle, except during Christmas market, 16 November - 4 December 2018.
  • Blue badge holders park for free.

Calton Lees car park is located at the southern end of the park and is open every day until 7pm and costs £3 per vehicle.

We do not have electric car charging points at Chatsworth. However, there are several in the local area. Please see public charging networks.

Please also be aware we do not have a designated parking area for motor homes.

By bus

A number of local bus services come to Chatsworth and stop at the house. The bus stop is just a short walk from the house, garden and farmyard entrances. 

Passengers arriving by bus into Baslow village are able to access the park via a public footpath. From the bus stop at Goose Green, walk over the bridge and follow the path to your right. It is then a pleasant 2km walk to the house and attractions.

Please be aware that during Chatsworth Country Fair and from 14 November to 4 December for Christmas market no buses will stop at Chatsworth. All buses that normally stop at Chatsworth will stop at the Edensor bus stop. No other bus routes are affected.

The Transpeak and the National Express services both pass through Bakewell.

By train

The closest train station to Chatsworth is Chesterfield. However, buses from Chesterfield do not come all the way into to Chatsworth. The closest bus stop is Baslow, which is 2km on foot. Passengers arriving by bus into Baslow village are able to access the park via a public footpath. From the bus stop at Goose Green, walk over the bridge and follow the path to your right. It is then a pleasant 2km walk to the house and attractions.

It is possible to take the train to Sheffield and then take a bus from the Sheffield Interchange (across the road) directly to Chatsworth. Buses run approximately every hour daily.

From Manchester and Manchester airport, there is a train service to Buxton.

East Midlands Trains operates regular trains to and from Chesterfield and Sheffield via Derby. Chesterfield station is approximately two hours journey from London St Pancras.

By bicycle

We have cycle storage facilities for visitors arriving by bicycle. These are located at the front of the house, adjacent to the left luggage room.

Christmas market by bus

In addition to the bus services above, during Christmas market two additional services will be in operation. Both services will run Monday to Sunday, from 16 November to 4 December 2018 with an increased service on weekends, Friday-Sunday.

The X6 service will be operated by Midland Classic, and runs between Burton and Chatsworth, with stops including Derby, Belper, Matlock, and Darley Dale. View the X6 timetable.

The Route 4 service will be operated by High Peak Buses, and runs between Buxton and Chatsworth, with stops including Ashford-in-the-Water, Bakewell and the estate farm shop. View the Route 4 timetable

Public bus shuttle

There will also be a shuttle bus ferrying visitors from the public bus stop at Edensor between 0800-1430 and 1700-1830, to and from the market. For the 170 Hulley’s bus service, if passengers walk to the park through the kissing gate in Baslow, they will be able to pick up the buggy and tractor trailer shuttles operating throughout the day in the park.
