By car

If travelling through Baslow by sat nav, you will see the Golden Gates into Chatsworth. These are for authorised access only, except in the case of some special events. Please continue through Baslow and follow the brown signs for the public entrance to Chatsworth on the B6012.

  • From the M1, take junction 29, Chesterfield and follow the brown signs: 16 miles
  • From Matlock, take the A6, then the B6012: 8 miles
  • From Manchester, take the A6 and A623: 38 miles
  • We are 30-minute drive from Chesterfield railway station.
  • We are a 40-minute drive from Sheffield railway station.

The house car park is conveniently located next to the house, garden, stables and farmyard.

Both car parks are open from 9am to 6pm and tickets are between £5 and £7.50 per vehicle, depending on the season. Over the Christmas period, the Chatsworth car park is only accessible with a pre-booked ticket.

We ask all visitors to use contactless card payments.

Dedicated Blue Badge car parking is available at the house car park.

We do not have electric car charging points at Chatsworth. However, there are some in the local area. Please see public charging networks.

By bus

Car-free visitors receive a free guidebook

A number of local bus services come to Chatsworth and stop at the house. The bus stop is just a short walk from the house, garden, and farmyard entrances.

Chesterfield station

The closest major train station to Chatsworth is Chesterfield. Buses from Chesterfield stop at Chatsworth (see by bus section above).

East Midlands Railway operates regular trains to and from Chesterfield via Derby. Chesterfield station is approximately two hours journey from London St Pancras.

Matlock station

Matlock is the nearest station to Chatsworth, and buses from Matlock run directly to Chatsworth. See the ‘By bus’ section above for further details.

Sheffield station

It is possible to take the train to Sheffield and then take a bus from the Sheffield Interchange (across the road from the train station) directly to Chatsworth. Buses run approximately every hour daily. See the ‘By bus’ section above for further details.

East Midlands Railway operates regular trains to and from Sheffield. Sheffield station is approximately two hours journey from London St Pancras.

By bicycle

Car-free visitors receive a free guidebook

We have cycle storage facilities for visitors arriving by bicycle. These are located at the front of the house, adjacent to the left luggage room.

Travel to Chatsworth by bus, train or bicycle and receive a free guidebook for each adult ticket booked.

Receiving your guidebook

If booking in advance, select ‘No’ in the booking process when asked if you will be coming by car. You will then need to show your bus/train ticket for that day, on arrival at Chatsworth, or demonstrate that you arrived by bicycle. You will then be able to claim your guidebook at any of the entry points to the house, garden or farmyard.

If you wish to buy a ticket when you arrive, simply show your bus/train ticket, or demonstrate that you arrived by bicycle for that day’s journey at one of the till points at the house, garden or farmyard.
