The form and design of this monumental pot is intended as a reflection of the structure of bamboo scaffolding used by builders in China. The display of the pot at Chatsworth also serves as a contemporary take on the Baroque tradition of blue and white oriental porcelain on display in the State Apartment.

Felicity Aylieff is a ceramicist with a focus on blurring the boundaries between ceramics and sculpture, and investigating the point at which a 'pot' can be understood as sculpture. She has developed a collaborative relationship with factories in Jingdezhen, China, where she produces monumental pots such as this.
