Chatsworth's 2026 exhibition House of Stories: Tales From the Chatsworth Library, brings together some of the Devonshire collection’s most exciting treasures, including rare editions and volumes from authors including Geoffrey Chaucer, Jane Austen and Oscar Wilde. Chatsworth will also be hosting literary-themed talks and events to celebrate the National Year of Reading.

You may borrow the Community Membership Card in the same way you would borrow a library book. The card grants you access to Chatsworth House, Garden, Farmyard and Adventure Playground for seven days*. You do not need to pre-book Chatsworth entry tickets, simply present your card to a member of staff for scanning on arrival. At the end of the seven days, return the Membership Card to the library.

This is a pilot project which will be running until 4 October 2026.

We are delighted to be working in partnership with Derbyshire County Council Libraries during the National Year of Reading. There are 45 public libraries in Derbyshire plus a mobile library service and online services. If you live, work or study in Derbyshire you can join and use library services for free. Research shows that reading for pleasure has a positive impact on mental health and wellbeing. Our partnership with Derbyshire County Council Libraries celebrates taking a moment to enjoy a good read. A range of books are provided in the house for you to do this during your visit to Chatsworth, including Reading Well for Dementia and Reading Well for Children collections.

Reading Well is a national initiative created by The Reading Agency providing free and evidence-based reading materials that support people in the understanding and management of their mental health and wellbeing.
