Arts engagement
Art workshops last two hours unless otherwise stated and include an interactive talk and practical art-making activities; sessions are designed to enhance visual literacy and develop technical and creative skills.
Portraits and identity
To celebrate the 2020 Life Stories exhibition at Chatsworth, learners will develop historic, contextual and observational skills and specialist vocabulary as a tool for looking at portraiture and identity. This session will focus on the context of portraiture in art and explore the relevance of media and technique to compose their own responses.
Students will discuss the notion of self-identity and experiment with a range of drawing media and photo montage techniques, to create representations of themselves through visual and critical language. The session will conclude with an evaluative group discussion reflecting on their learning and the creative process.

Printmaking
Visit can include the house, garden and/or farmyard
In this session, learners will develop observational drawing skills and specialist vocabulary as a tool for looking and thinking about art in new ways. Following observation and drawing with a focus on line, shape and space to compose their images, students will then experiment with printmaking and the use of collagraph printing techniques in the learning centre.

Sculpture at Chatsworth
Visit must include the house
Use a range of looking, drawing and analysis techniques to explore a selection of classical and contemporary sculptural objects. This session includes observational drawing skills taking place inside the house and/or the gardens. Learners will be introduced to a select range of 3D objects to study. Learners will practice drawing from observation and making visual notes through mark making and reflective annotation. These drawings and marks will be used as a basis for a 3D sculptural interpretation, demonstrating an appreciation of form and manipulation of materials.
