Travel emissions
In 2018, it was estimated that our visitors contributed 9,711 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (tCO2e) emissions in journeys to and from Chatsworth. That’s more than double the annual emissions from heating and powering the Group’s owned and operated property.
Transport carbon statement
The table below shows the energy use and greenhouse emissions from vehicles owned and operated by the Group, including farm machinery on our in-hand farms (MWh and tCO2e emissions)

What have we done so far?
- Taken on two fully electric Nissan e-NV200 vans for the Devonshire Hotels and Restaurants Group’s maintenance teams.
- Partnered with several local bus services to increase bus travel to Chatsworth. Visitors arriving by relevant bus routes receive a £4 discount on their ticket to the house, garden, farmyard and playground.
- Provided electric vehicle charging facilities for guests staying at the Devonshire Arms at Beeley, the Devonshire Arms at Pilsley, the Devonshire Arms at Bolton Abbey and the Devonshire Fell.
- Continued operating the Bike2Work scheme for our employees.
What’s next?
- Investigate electric vehicle charging points for both staff and visitor vehicles.
- Continue to explore ways of encouraging the use of public transport.
