FAQs

1. Do I have to pay to visit the Christmas market?

Access to the Christmas market is free, however, you must buy a car park ticket in advance if you wish to park at Chatsworth. All tickets will be scanned at the car park entrance.

You can choose a full-day car park ticket (to arrive after 9am) or a ticket for parking after 3pm (to arrive after 3pm).

The market opens at 10am and closes at 5.30 pm (Mon-Thurs) and 6pm (Friday-Sunday).

Each car park ticket admits one car/motorbike per booking.  If you require more than one car parking space, you can add additional spaces during the checkout process.

All tickets will be scanned at the car park entrance. You must bring your booking confirmation with you and be ready to show it on entry.  Please note that we cannot retrieve bookings for you at the car park entrance and wifi/mobile access on site is unpredictable.

Only one booking confirmation is issued. If you have booked tickets for people travelling in a separate car, you will need to book more than one car parking space. Each car included in your order must have a copy of the booking confirmation to show on entry. The QR code on your booking confirmation will validate entry for the number of cars on your booking, after which it will become inactive, e.g. one scan for one car parking space, two scans for two car parking spaces etc.

Standard car parking tickets are not valid for vehicles with 10+ seats, e.g. coaches and mini-buses.

We encourage all our visitors to travel by public transport where possible. Some bus services drop off and pick up at the bus stop at the house car park. Find out which bus services stop at Chatsworth.

2. Does my ticket include entry to the house/garden/farmyard?

A Christmas market car park ticket does not include entry to the house, garden or farmyard and adventure playground.

If you would like to experience the decorated house, garden light trail and farmyard, you will need a Christmas at Chatsworth ticket which can only be purchased online in advance.

Between 7 November and 13 December, all Christmas at Chatsworth and Christmas in the Garden tickets include access to the market.

3. Can I arrive by mini-bus?

Car park tickets (including market parking) are not valid for vehicles with 10+ seats (e.g. mini-buses). This includes licensed taxis.

If you wish to park a mini-bus at Chatsworth over the Christmas period (7 Nov - 3 Jan), you must contact the Bookings team in advance using the form on the link below.

Ensure you select 'Tickets & Bookings' as your enquiry type.

4. I am a Chatsworth Friend, do I need to book my tickets in advance?

All visitors, including Chatsworth Friends and all pass holders, must book market car park tickets online in advance.

Information on how to book tickets is available in the Friends hub.

5. Will there be any disabled parking?

There is disabled parking available in the main car park, car parking charges apply. Please display your blue badge clearly when arriving at Chatsworth so our team can direct you to the disabled parking area.

Once this area becomes full, they will direct you to a space on parkland or trackway which is closest to the tractor and trailer shuttle service. The shuttle service is wheelchair accessible.

It may be helpful to familiarise yourself with our Christmas Market car parking arrangements before your visit. View car parking map.

Parking charges apply for all visitors, including blue badge holders.

If you would like any further information, please visit the accessibility section of our website.

Please note that the market is located on an incline, Lodge Hill, and pedestrian trackway is used for access to non-paved areas.

Wheelchair access ramps for the market are available on request. Please ask a member of the Chatsworth team.

6. Can I get a refund or change my booking?

You may amend the date and entry time of your booking using the Manage Your Booking link in your booking confirmation or via the link on our website. There is a £5 modification fee to do this.

We are unable to offer refunds for any reason.

7. Can I bring my dog?

Well-behaved dogs on leads are welcome at the Christmas market.

Please note that the market can get very busy at times.

8. What are ground conditions like at Chatsworth?

Over the Christmas market period (8 November - 14 December), some cars may be parked on grass, or temporary tracking across the parkland with a tractor and trailer shuttle service transporting visitors between numbered car park shuttle stops and the main car park.

Due to the time of year and the wet weather often experienced throughout Derbyshire over this period, the walk from your car is likely to be very muddy. Please take care on the trackways as they can be slippery and muddy. You may find it helpful to have access to a torch.

We strongly recommend that you wear sturdy footwear suitable for walking on uneven ground and in slippery, wet and muddy conditions. We will not be held responsible for damage to footwear, or for other personal items including prams and pushchairs.

You can view a map of car parking during the Christmas market here: view map.

9. Do you have parent and child parking?

Please note that we do not have dedicated parent and child parking, and we cannot guarantee a parking space close to the house or the toilets/ baby changing facilities.
