Over the span of 470 years of continuous family ownership, Chatsworth's landscape and horticultural practices have been shaped by prevailing fashions and tastes. Join the Chatsworth Garden team for a behind-the-scenes look at the workings of the estate's production gardens. This includes a concise overview of pivotal periods in the family's ownership history, the shifts in location of production gardens across the landscape, and the diverse array of plants cultivated for use outside of their natural habitats, encompassing fruits, vegetables, and flowers.

With a renewed interest in the origins of our food, in organic principles, food miles, heritage varieties, sustainability, in-season cooking and working with the rhythm of nature in our own vegetable gardens, this is a great opportunity to meet the team, discover what they are working on and find out what you can look forward to seeing in the garden in the open season.

The talk will also include tea or coffee and an opportunity for questions and answers.

This year our winter talks will take place in our garden studio, The Old Potting Shed. Please arrive from 10.45am at the top garden gates where a member of staff will direct you to the venue. The Old Potting Shed is step free and has accessible facilities. If you have any questions about accessibility please contact education@chatsworth.org.
