Event details
Saturday 7 & Sunday 8 September | 10am to 3.30pm
£175 per person, includes all materials, lunch and access to the garden.
In this two-day workshop, you'll explore the art of lino printing and receive expert guidance on making and printing from your own lino plates.
There will be examples of reduction lino prints available to inspire your creativity, as well as plenty of reference images but you are also welcome to bring along your own images.
Day 1: Making your linocut prints
Start with hands-on observational drawing in the garden, then translate your sketches into linocut designs in the studio. Experiment with different techniques and try out collaged grounds to create your first set of straightforward linocut prints. Then you will start work on your reduction lino plate.
Day 2: Getting the hang of reduction lino printing
Learn the practical ins and outs of reduction lino printing. Understand how to add multiple colours to a single print and create a registration board for precision. Design your reduction print and dive into the process, working towards completing your limited-edition set. Walk away with practical skills and a collection of nature-inspired reduction lino prints.
About Diane Cooper
The workshop is led by Diane Cooper, an art teacher of 18 years who now also provides workshops for all ages here at Chatsworth and at her home studio. Diane is Fine Art trained and, in her own practice, she specialises in oil painting and printmaking using a range of processes.
Important information:
This will be a hands-on weekend where you'll not only enhance your artistic skills but also have the opportunity to enjoy the beauty of the Chatsworth Garden. We'll be outside whatever the weather, so please check the forecast and make sure you're appropriately dressed.
This workshop includes a ticket to the garden and you are welcome to explore during lunch or after the workshop.
Each day a graze box lunch from the Chatsworth Estate farm shop will be provided. After booking, a member of the education team will be in touch to discuss any dietary requirements.
Experience
This will be a relaxed creative session and no previous experience of lino printing is required. We welcome all abilities and our tutor will carefully guide you through each stage of the process. All materials and tools are included. Participants must be 18+ years of age.
Accessibility
The workshops will take place in the Old Potting Shed, which is a step-free, accessible venue located just inside the Chatsworth Garden. Please email [email protected] if you have any questions about your individual needs and we will be happy to help.
