Hello there,

My name is Melissa and I joined the Chatsworth Farmyard team back in September, taking over from Margaret as the farmyard manager. It’s been a busy start for me and I have enjoyed meeting some of you in recent weeks. However, the second lockdown has meant I haven’t had chance to meet as many of you as I’d like, so I thought I would share an update about some of the new things happening at the farmyard (although you may have spotted a few of these if you visited during half term!).

We have recently welcomed some new additions to the farmyard. We were delighted to have the opportunity to take over the care of the historic Jacob flock from the estate farm. The Jacob flock has lived on the estate for over 250 years and we are already looking forward to welcoming their lambs next spring.

Have you met Hamster our new Landrace pig? Look out for him in the cattle shed!

We have also welcomed a herd of Bagot goats to the paddocks. They are very friendly and have enjoyed meeting you all, particularly over October half-term. We are hopeful for the patter of tiny hooves early in the spring.

We can’t wait to welcome you back to the farmyard over the festive season. As well as being able to meet the new arrivals, animal feed will be available from the oak barn so you can get up close with some of our farmyard friends. Also in the oak barn will be our fun Christmas crafts, while up in the adventure playground little ones will be able to let off some steam. Finally, explore the newly-opened paddock area and take in the glorious views across the estate – wellies are a must!

I look forward to welcoming you all back to the farmyard soon.

Best wishes

Melissa
