Farmyard

Says Theresa (Volunteer):  "My decision to volunteer on the farm was an easy one to make, as I love being outside in the fresh air; I’m an all- weather girl at heart.

I thoroughly enjoy being around animals and helping take care of them. This gives me a great deal of satisfaction, especially when I’ve helped to muck out the cattle shed for the ewes, lambs, does and kids, and helped to feed and water the guinea pigs ready for the day ahead.

One of my favourite experiences so far has been handfeeding the lambs, kids, and calves, and seeing all the new arrivals from piglets to foals and chicks, to name but a few! The whole team are amazing, extremely supportive and informative, and most of all totally committed to the work they do!

I am a happy volunteer who is looking forward to learning and developing new skills, gaining a wider knowledge base and a greater understanding of the needs of the animals on the farmyard.

Landscape

Says Tim,  “I really enjoy volunteering at Chatsworth. The main benefit for me is working outside with like-minded people who provide fantastic company. I have also learned so much since I started, particularly about invasive species and how the waterways are used and maintained. Another thing I find valuable is the fitness that comes from working outdoors. It has been amazing to volunteer in such a beautiful setting with such amazing volunteers and staff.”

Says Liz, “Volunteering at Chatsworth is an amazing experience, and I feel privileged to be part of the Landscape Team. It is great to work outdoors, become more involved in conservation and to help the local area... As part of the Landscape Team, I am involved in activities such as creating dead hedging, removing invasive species, maintaining pathways & waterways and building bird boxes, to name but a few. The work has allowed us to understand the history of the landscape and the engineering involved, along with the maintenance challenges faced on the estate. We volunteer whatever the weather and nothing can beat the stunning views across the grounds to Chatsworth House itself. The outdoor lunches and home-made cakes are an added bonus!”
