Discover the alternative photographic art of cyanotype and create a series of unique, one-of-a-kind Christmas decorations.

About the session

You will learn the historic printing process of cyanotype and transform delicate natural forms into beautiful blue-and-white artworks, presented in miniature embroidery hoops ready to hang.

Guided by printmaker Diane Cooper, you'll experiment with composition, exposure and finishing techniques to create your own unique set of festive decorations. Suitable for absolute beginners, we will provide step-by-step instruction in a friendly, creative environment.

All materials are provided, and you'll leave with a set of three mini cyanotype hoop decorations to take home.
 
This will be a relaxed creative session. No previous experience of collagraph printing is required, all abilities are very welcome and our tutor will carefully guide you through each stage of the process. Adults only.

Your workshop includes entry to the decorated house and garden on the day of your visit, and it also includes parking for one vehicle.

These workshops take place during the Christmas market, to which entry is free.

Meeting point and refreshments

Please meet at the top garden gates at 9.20am for a 9.30am start.

Tea and coffee will be provided, alongside a mince pie from Chatsworth Farm Shop.

We will break for lunch, so please bring a packed lunch. The Carriage House Café will be open for hot meals, soup, and sandwiches.

Accessibility

The workshop takes place in our garden learning centre, the Old Potting Shed, which is step free and accessible.

Important information

*Please ensure you check opening times so you leave plenty of time to experience the house and garden.

Please be aware that Christmas is the busiest time at Chatsworth, and you may be required to park in the parkland and take our tractor and trailer shuttle service to the house and garden entrances. Therefore, please allow plenty of time to travel, dress appropriately for the weather and terrain, and have access to a torch.

About the artist

This workshop is led by Diane Cooper from Workshop 57, who has over 20 years of art teaching experience.

Diane has a degree in Fine Art (painting) but her love of printmaking has now taken over, and she offers workshops across various venues and locations, alongside in her home studio in Sheffield. Diane is passionate about both art and teaching and loves passing on her enthusiasm for all things print.
