Easter at Chatsworth has arrived, with something for visitors of all ages spread throughout the garden, farmyard and playground from 30 March to 28 April.
Enjoy face painting, an Easter trail and British bird crafts and activities in the garden, help the farmyard team care for the Chatsworth animals, plus the hugely popular Easter egg hunts will take place in the farmyard throughout the four-day Easter weekend with lots of hidden eggs to find.
Chatsworth launches a new exhibition on 23 March, ‘The Dog: A Celebration at Chatsworth’. Voted one of the best places in the country to walk your dog, according to Dog Friendly Cottages, Chatsworth has put together three of its favourite walks for dogs and their owners. The dog walk map is available to pick up at any garden entrance.
In the garden
Easter trail
30 March-8 April
Lots of willow animals are loose in the garden this Easter, visitors are invited to find them all.
Face painting
19-22 April
Visitors can enjoy free face painting for little ones in Flora's Temple.
British bird crafts and activities
19-22 April
Make a pine cone chick or bird feeder and learn about British birds in the Stickyard.
In the farmyard
Get crafty
11am-1pm and 2pm-4pm
Get hands-on and creative with spring and Easter crafts in the top yard.
Trailer discovery tour
Explore the landscape at Chatsworth and learn a little bit more about the area with commentary suitable for all ages.
Chatsworth young farmers
3 and 24 April, 1.30pm-5.30pm
Join the farmyard team to help with their daily activities. This is a chance for hands-on involvement in caring for the Chatsworth Farmyard animals. This event is suitable for children aged between 6 and 11. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
Easter egg hunts
19-22 April, 11.30am, 1pm, 2pm, 3pm
The hugely popular Easter egg hunts will take place in the farmyard throughout the whole Easter weekend with lots of hidden eggs to find. Due to wet and muddy ground conditions in the farmyard fields, it is advised to wear sturdy footwear for the Easter egg hunts.
Easter Eggspress
19-22 April
All aboard the Easter Eggspress! Keep a lookout for the furry Easter bunny. These tractor trailer rides are first-come, first- served.
In the house, ‘The Dog: A Celebration at Chatsworth’ (23 March - 6 October 2019) is inspired by the Duchess of Devonshire’s love for her four-legged friends. The exhibition explores stories of bravery and mischief, of working dogs and treasured companions through a myriad of paintings and objects from letters, snuff boxes, jewellery, sculpture and ceramics to embroideries, drawings and painted ceilings.
Well-behaved dogs kept on leads are welcome in the garden and parkland at Chatsworth.
Assistance dogs are allowed in the house. Doggy drinking stations and posts to allow visitors to leave their dog while visiting the house and farmyard are available. There’s also a new dog-friendly indoor seating area at the Carriage House Café in the stables.
